The link posted by Upphew is for those glass rocks (lasikivi). You definitely cannot grow plants in those. At the same time, I still don't see why someone would wanna grow plants in water balls (or water gel, or crystal soil, or however people call it these days)

Crystal soil is known in Finland as water beads (Vesihelmet). I've seen them in many stores, but if you Google a bit you'll find this http://www.decorahouse.com/haakauppa/ru ... steet.html

My recommendation is to get them a lot cheaper from eBay.
