Hello,
I am looking for someone who is fluent in Eng & Finnish for the purpose of translating on the 8th of January & possibly the next morning. The connection that is needed is a lot less straightforward, but it needs to be someone who can make contact and set up a day of observation with a teacher or school on the 8th. I'm actually writing this for a friend - he is a superb English teacher from Japan (highly fluent Eng/ native Jp) and is always interested in improving his methods.
For some time now, whenever he has read about the education system in Finland he was impressed and, of course, very curious. It is almost the end of the year and he has a chance to travel and he wishes to make it a learning experience. He'd prefer 13+ years age group and the ability to wander from class to class, but if that cannot be worked out, he is is open to anything (staying in one class all day, or with a specific teacher all day)
.
As a person, he is very intelligent & upstanding. Definitely a very interesting individual.
I hope to hear from you soon! <I will pass on his personal details for contacting as soon as a fitting reply to this is given>

Seems like it would be useful to contact the ministry of education:japantravel wrote:The connection that is needed is a lot less straightforward, but it needs to be someone who can make contact and set up a day of observation with a teacher or school on the 8th. Re: LF a translator with a connection
Thank you for the link, I shall inquire there as well.
I still hope that there are some interested parties that respond. Oftentimes, a situation like this is a little more enjoyable for everyone when it is more of an informal event. Going through the equivalent of the MoE channels in Japan produces a large amount of hassle for many people, and if it can be arranged it usually is very rigid with little to no flexibility, as well as the numerous reports that need to filed because it was coming down from the MoE. I hope it is different in the Finnish system!
Still, if someone with a connection to a person in the education system were to pass the word to the right people, then I feel like the level of interest would much higher for the teacher and the observation of the classrooms to be more natural. If anyone has questions, please ask.
Oh yes, his teaching credentials can be verified in any manner you wish.
<Also, if you are a teacher or other educational staff with a comfortable mastery of English and you don't feel like there would be a need for a translator, please reply>
Thank you for your time.
