Suggestions to buy apartment in Jyvaskyla

Post by praajhen » Wed Dec 16, 2015 12:51 am

I will be in Jyvaskyla for 4-5 years. Instead of spending lots of money for rent, I have a plan to buy an apartment and paying back on monthly basics. Could you please give some suggestions?

Advanced thanks for your answer and time.

To qualify for a mortgage from a Finnish credit institution expect at least the following requirements:
  • Two years of residence in Finland
  • 10% downpayment
  • Permanent employment contract or comparable regular source of income

The search engine for this forum will give plenty of information about where to look and how to buy (property information will be in finnish).

The main thing to beware of is any apartment which is older than 1980 that has not had the plumbing renewed. At some point all the water/sewage pipes are replaced in the entire building which normally means all bathrooms are replaced (every flat in the block will be done in one major project, no opting out). This makes your apartment almost uninhabitable for 3-4 months (no running water/toilets) and a substantial cost (30k euro). So you might want to buy a newer apartment or one where this work has already been done.
