Moi,
I live in an apartment these days (first time for me) and was wondering how should I go about ordering a product from say eBay that is bigger than the post slot. Should I order it to the nearest post office or ?
Kiitos

Posti has a special machine that will cram the stuff and make it fit through the slot. That's why it's not a good idea to order glass stuff...
Sorry, could not resist

Just order to your own address and Posti will prob deliver you a note to pick from the nearest post office.
They don't even seem to bother to attempt to deliver it to you, in case you're home at the time of the delivery.

You order it normally to your regular address. If it's bigger than the slot, it's automatically stored for you in the post office and you get a paper notification saying that you need to go to the post office to pick it up. You take that paper and show it in the post office, and they give you your item.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Better to have some ID with you too. If it is "big sized letter" you get it with just the note, with parcels you need ID to along with the note or tracking code/shelf code to get it.

I have to disagree.
The ID has nothing to do with the package fitting in the slot or not. You'll have to bring your ID to the post office if the item is tracked, signed-for, or some other 3rd type I forgot. If you're receiving a very small letter that is tracked/signed-for, you'll still have to show ID.

The blue card with the cartoon on it is not tracked and anyone holding the slip can collect with no ID. This is for things that don't fit. Although often they mess up on guessing at the slot and you look at the parcel and realise it would have fit. Doh.
The orange and blue one covered in text is for tracked parcels and you will need ID and it has nothing to do with parcel size but with delivery type of registered etc. It also has a section where you can nominate someone to collect and they have to show their own ID.
There are three main ways Finnish stores post things. One is regular/registered post. One is Matkahuolto which is often SIWA/Valintatalo or for big things you collect at their warehouses. One is Posti automatic machines where you just put in the code and open the locker. Ours is in the local S-market shop but they are also in shopping malls.
The check out system of the website will tell you which delivery they use.

I don't think this colour coding system is nationwide. The notifications where I live are on A4 pieces of paper with all details listed (where the post office is, what kind of package it is etc. I have not seen the cartoon one for many years.
There are also the overseas parcels where the parcel needs clearance first. These arrive via email and I have to complete an online form before the post office delivers it (and probably leaves the A4 paper in the letter box to tell me to collect it from them).

at least here in the capital region, SIWA is often closer than the post office, and the shipping seems to be a little cheaper; if there's an option to use matkahuolto, you should check out if it isn't the best option.
