Charges/Fees for buying from ASOS.com ?

Post by Samer2010 » Tue Jan 05, 2016 6:23 pm

Hello Forum,

ASOS.com is a British online fashion and beauty store, and I wanna buy an item from them that would cost about 90 Euros, I guess the delivery will be free, But, Do I have to page fees/charges for the Finnish customs?

I have bought several times items from Zalando which is pretty much a similar online store but based in Germany, and I never paid anything for the Finnish customs. Well, It was just ordering something e.g. 60 Euros > paid it > the item is shipped to me, and that's all.

So, Is ASOS.com really different and I must pay additional fees for it even if the total item's cost is less than 100 Euros ?

Please, Let me know !

Thanks Forum !

If they ship from UK and EU (There are some channel islands that are neither) then then there are no customs charges.

Except for a limited list of goods, there are no customs or VAT charges (other than the ones you already paid when you paid for the item) between all the countries that are green and blue.

Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

I've never ordered anything from Asos.com but, in theory, they should apply Finnish VAT rates to sales delivered to the Finnish mainland - so the final price you pay might vary from the price shown - this should be visible when you go through checkout.

At least that is how Amazon works.

Also, they probably recuperate the delivery charges in the exchange rate £/€ which would be less favourable than the bank rate.

it depends how much trade they do with customers in finland. If not much is sent to finland then they will be charging the VAT of where they are based. Amazon have enough customers in Finland that they have to register for finnish VAT and charge finnish VAT rates. I just bought some quilt covers from Holland and they charged dutch VAT, since not many Finns buy from that shop.
