Change of address notification

Hi,

I would like to get your advice regarding how to make a change-of-address notification in my case. I used to live in Kontula but just moved out several weeks ago. At the moment, I am living with my friend but haven't updated my new address to Maistraatti yet. The reason for that is because my friend doesn't allow me to move to his house, but does allow me to live there temporarily until I find somewhere to rent. He told me that because his house has already reached the maximum number of allowed people, it won't be possible to register any new one more. Because of that, my letters still come to the old address in Kontula and the people living there have to forward them to my friend's address every time. I don't want to bother them any more and they have also advised me to go to Maistraatti to update my new address. However, I can't do that due to the reason I mentioned ago. Thus, I would like to know if:

1. Can I use the nearest posti or my company's address as my new address so that my letters will come there and I can pick them up?
2. Can I tell Maistraatti that I am currently living temporarily and don't have a fixed place and that I just want my letters to come to my friend's address without marking it as my new address?

It is optional if you make the address change for post office OR magistrate office OR both:

Alternatively of course you can inform individual mail senders to use another address (also for example your office address). I know there is also some sort of poste restante option, but for that i have no experience.

So answers are 1) Yes 2) In that case you will not tell Maistraatti at all, just post office.

You can tell maistraatti and posti that your new address is "poste restante, 12345 nearest post office", that has to be done by "paper" so calling isnt enough but internet is. After that you can collect your mail from 12345 nearest post office by asking them if there is any mail for suomivn.

Hi , if someone puts his/her address as the "post restante" in helsinki, would it still be possible to get a bus card there? What is the disadvantage of this in total?

I think he was asking if they can use that as their registered address for residential purposes to be eligible for the transport discount within Helsinki.

Somehow I believe the answer will be "no" or every tourist from within the EU would be able to do this without registering as a resident.

Posti offers fixed-term mail forwarding or delivery interruption at about 10€ per month.

These are paid services (around 10 € per month) offered by Posti. They are just about mail delivery and have no link to your place of residence.

One unrelated headache may be that in order to pay for the hot water, you would need to register with the house where you actually live. The neighbors are generally not happy about freeloaders who obviously live there. It depends on the house how soon they notice.
