Studying IT in Finland - Experiences

Post by Quyen Duong » Thu Jan 07, 2016 4:50 pm

Hi I'm planning on studying IT in Finland and it would help a lot if anyone who used to and is studying IT can tell me about the schools and your opinions. Where do you study, what do you study and are you happy with it ? Thanks a lot and I'm looking forward to everyone's replies :D

If that is your take odds are good university was wrong institution for you and your experience would have been pretty much the same anywhere, certainly if the institution felt it was worth its salt. More to the point programming languages, apart from the first, should have no place in the curriculum of a research university, that stuff everyone should learn on their own.

Had I attended university I would remember all the whiners who belly ached about the relevance of linear algebra, differential equations, line integrals, linear transformations (Fourier and Laplace) and such. I would have not, I would have picked my mediocre arse up and studied the material because I was nowhere near intelligent enough to master it without effort to find out much of the stuff came in handy almost 20 years down the line when I ended up developing non trivial software. Can't do the math anymore but I still understand the concepts.

roger roger. Seems as if you get a theoretical education from a university. But if you want practical you should go to a UAS. Is this right. I didn't think this was news.

Anyone from outside Finland will not be studying in Finnish anyway. That probably means UAS for the OP.
