Requirements For Students who've completed A-Levels

Post by smj » Thu Feb 04, 2016 4:22 pm

Is there anyone from A-Levels background who studies in any Finnish UAS ?
I am planning to apply to one of the UAS. I wanted to know if there is any special requirements for the students having A-level certificate.
And (like German Universities) is it compulsory for A-Levels students to have passed at least one language subject on their certificate to be considered for admission? I'm really confused. Help is really appreciable.
Thanks for the help. :) :)

When are you applying because I think the "Admissions" deadline for the Bachelors taught in English was last week (27th Jan)? Next application period will be in the autumn for entrance in Jan 2017 for some programmes (not all start new programmes in the winter).

Anyway, the eligibility criteria are here: https://studyinfo.fi/wp2/en/higher-educ ... bachelors/

There is no specific mention of A levels, so I guess they would fall under the category of "completing high school education". It might also depend which programme you are applying for and what subjects you are offering at A level. For example, it seems unlikely that you would be able to get onto an engineering programme without at least an AS level in maths.

I suggest you choose the programmes that you are interested in and then send an email to the UAS asking for more information. Again, the same applies to the language criteria. Usually English is tested at the entrance exam. They might exempt you from that part of the test if you have suitable A levels.

In my experience, there are very very few students at UAS who have applied with A levels, so you might not get an answer on here.

Thanks for replying Rosamunda. :)
Actually I've already applied for the upcoming fall session and I've passed all the required subjects to get into IT program. However, the only thing i'm now worried about is the language subject requirement. I have passed General Paper too though. But a couple of days ago one of my friends applying to German University got a rejection e-mail saying that his General Paper cannot be counted as a language course and he needed to have a language course (like Spanish, Italian, etc) in his A-levels certificate in order to be considered valid for application. I'm afraid if Finnish U/UAS have the same requirements. Therefore I wanted to know if anyone who's done A-levels has been admitted to one of the UAS or not? If so has there been such requirement for a mandatory language course in A-level certificate?
Should I directly contact the polytechnic and ask?
And, one more thing- why aint there more students from A levels program? Is there any special reason? Are such students easily rejected? Or is it that it's not a good option to choose a Finnish Polytechnic for who're from A-Levels program?
Damn I'm so confused!
