Try searching mol.fi for jobs in Oulu or Tampere.roger_roger wrote:1%Spirit of the Forest wrote:I'm experienced with Python, some Perl, and some C.
What are the chances of finding a programming job further north, outside of the Helsinki area altogether?

Re: I AM LOOKING FOR A JOB
I haven't done any serious Perl in roughly 5 years. But I still mention that I have some experience with it, just in case.roger_roger wrote:I guess you know already that Perl is almost dead and new development in Perl doesn't happen (at least not in Finland). Some companies still maintains old Perl applications, but the market is almost non-existence.
As for C, there are few product companies which still base their product in low level languages for speed. Generally C is taken as complimentary language these days rather than main business line.
Python, does have a market but the market share of Python in Finland is pretty low compared to lets say UK, but there are several Python jobs mostly in south.
If you know Java then your chances of getting hired in Finland increases by 60%, as most industries are based on Java, even Scala is getting recognition after 10 years of failure to gain momentum. I see lots of vacancy ads for Java developers in Oulu and other areas... http://www.indeed.fi/jobs?q=java&sort=date
I've been told that JavaScript is big too. But I guess I should learn Java as well.
Thanks.
