They are currently processing applications submitted in August so you will not be able to get before the expiry of your residence permit (I assume you meant RP with visa). To continue staying legally you must submit an extension request for the RP in addition to the citizenship application.

What happened eventually?

I am in a similar situation: I have a job until August 2015 and that's when my residence permit expires. I have decided to apply for citizenship very soon and in advance (I also have a right on it in August), so that they would process it by August (I have an appointment time already).

So applied in January 2015, even though I had a right on it in August. Eventually, they opened my application on Aug 18, just on time, and I became a citizen. I recommend this trick! :)

Hi, First of all congratulations for the positive decision of application :) I need to ask something related to it, actually I am also in a similar situation. You mentioned here that, you have applied in advance. Does it mean you even applied before you had required period of residency (i.e. Four years)?
My situation is that, according to my calculations my continuous residency period of four years is going to complete on 1st April 2016 and I have job until end of August 2016. I have already got yki passed. Could I apply before 1st April i.e. about one month earlier my actual residency period needed in order to be eligible for citizenship? As now a days it is taking almost 6-7 months for the application to process, do they check all the eligibility things at the time of processing the application or the date when you applied for citizenship? Waiting for your kind response :)

They check at the time of decision. You can apply before you are eligible and take the risk they make the decision too early (making it negative).

Apply, your case is just fine. I have a friend who was in similar or slightly worse situation than yours but got it.

Especially when they don't really check your application the entire process. They only look at the eligibility when the case officer is treating the file which I assume usually starts 4 - 6 months after identification at the police.

Thank you for your kind response. One more thing I want to ask, do you know someone who applied on the basis of Four years of residency and got the positive decision?

Decision on citizenship is a big deal so the folks at migri take their time before granting or denying your application. In your case, it might depend on if you have a Finnish spouse or work visa. So before deciding on what to a clarification in that regards is important.
