The annual tax on diesel cars
Hi all,
A while ago, I seemed to recall hearing that the annual tax diesel cars would be phased out. Is that still the plan? I could not find much about it.
Any hints? Or should I already start to sell my almost new car?
Thanks.

Re: The annual tax on diesel cars
It's being reduced this year (while the tax you pay per litre is increased). Regarding future in general, I have no idea, except the trend will most likely be towards higher taxes (in general)....

(regarding "small" cars. I think the changes are different for vans and even heavier vehicles)

Re: The annual tax on diesel cars
Under the old rules/rates, a diesel worked out cheaper if you did more kilometres. I think I read that the threshold was about 18000 km per year. Below that petrol was cheaper; above that diesel was cheaper and of course the more km you drove the more you saved by using diesel. So now that I have a diesel the rules have changed. Does anyone know how this affects the cost comparison of petrol v diesel, and what the threshold km now is for diesel to be cheaper?
Re: The annual tax on diesel cars
well I've heard that you could benefit from staggered taxation by choosing a smaller car coz less fuel less tax. car tax will based depends on what kind of car?? i guess. It's being reduced this year (while the tax you pay per litre is increased). Diesel can be made from renewable source, gasoline can't.roger_roger wrote:Diesel is made for the use for heavier machines not cars. This is exactly the reason climate change is rapid, people buying Diesel cars because its cheap to run. Look for the future, save this world for your children and grand children. Stop using Diesel cars. NOx is much much dangerous than CO2.

I have a Diesel SUV and I do not look at the annual kms to justify it as my main factor. Like someone else said they were built for heavy machinery. Take a Diesel motor and put it in a car... It is so much stronger than Gas motors. When I look at my car on used car sites I see Diesal models with 400,000+ kms. I look at my same car with a gas motor and I really cant find one with over 200,000 kms. So with this in mind, Id rather pay the tax and have a car last twice as long....

Only problem with that is turbos, they don't last that long.hychamaz wrote:I have a Diesel SUV and I do not look at the annual kms to justify it as my main factor. That is true about supercharged diesels , they do not last much longer than petrol engines. And unfortunately most of diesels have turbines nowdaysUpphew wrote:Only problem with that is turbos, they don't last that long.hychamaz wrote:I have a Diesel SUV and I do not look at the annual kms to justify it as my main factor. That is why gasoline cars will run ethanol, that is a renewable source. The big problem here is that Fins rather drink it, than drive on itUpphew wrote: Diesel can be made from renewable source, gasoline can't.

If god would give us the source code, we could change the world

Renewable and Finnish! One would think that the posse who is quite critical about immigration would use E85 just not to give money to middle east or Putin's coffers.Piet wrote:That is why gasoline cars will run ethanol, that is a renewable source. Re: The annual tax on diesel cars
I again must disagree that the turbos dont last as long. If I see Diesals with 400,000 kms and Gas models on nettiauto for example with max 200,000. The turbos must be doing fine. And the cost of a new turbo (or used)... Still justifies the longevity of a great diesal motor such as Toyotas 3.0 D4D.
