Not sure where the best forum to put this thread is, so I decided to put it here.
As a Finnish citizen, when I was 18, I received a letter informing me of my scheduled conscription to the Finnish army.
I had to send a letter explaining why I wish to be exempt from service. I lived in Israel at the time.
Now after a year in Finland, and trying to apply for various jobs but receiving so far no replies at all, I began wondering about a possibility of joining the army.
I'm 27. I heard that the army service here isn't so tough anyway.
In Israel it's 3 years for men, 2 years for women. 12 years for pilots.
Is it still possible for me at all to join, if I choose to? Can I volunteer?
Do I get benefits if I do go through with it?
Joining the army
Re: Joining the army
Did you do military service in Israel?
There are no financial benefits to conscription, just some pocket money and whatever you can get out of it which largely depends on personal motivation and choice. Some people drift through, others use it as an opportunity to acquire new skills which could, eventually, improve their choices of getting employment later.
I don't know if it is possible to cancel an exemption and do conscription. Why not send them an email and ask.

Re: Joining the army
I didn't serve in Israel either. I have social anxiety and I had all kinds of mental problems. They didn't want me there.
I'm just thinking of the army as a possible direction. At least I could get some winter survival skills and gun training from it.
I already do regular physical training.
Oh well. I'll google for the official website and see, unless I get a job first.
Thanks.
