What you are looking for is not an intern but a slave. Interns you have to pay. Slaves you only have to feed.

I'm running energy, please see my comments below. Thanks.

First of all things, there was NO WHERE in my post where I suggested that any unpaid person would work full time. The only time I mentioned *FULL TIME* is when our interns had done such a great job that we HIRED (that means paid if you don't understand) to become full time.
Part time or full time does not matter. Every single unpaid hour is against the generally applicable collective bargaining agreement for baking.

Your advertisement says otherwise since the conditions are in violation of Finnish employment legislation. Unpaid hours can only happen under government sanctioned conditions. Most commonly this means work experience credits in a study program.

Yes, you probably need to go through a school. Try one of the ammattikoulu (eg http://www.hel.fi/hki/ammatillinen/fi/in_english there are plenty more) and I don't think English will be a problem as many of the courses are taught in English. In fact Perho is about to start up a programme in English as well (for high-school teenagers). The school will explain how the system works and explain to you the expectations in terms of supervision.

Another possibility is to look at what's available in terms of financial support (eg tax relief) for employers hiring unemployed youths. There are several schemes in place to encourage that. I don't know the terms and conditions but I should think you could find the info easily on-line. The city of Helsinki might be one place to start.

Thinking outside of the box, you could organise a training course (which you could actually charge money for) aimed specifically at young people, and recruit your new staff from there on a minimum wage.

The work practice guy wasn't fruitful for our organization and he just wasted our time and decreased some productivity due to staff engagement to teach him,
Believe it or not, when a company takes an intern or someone on work practice it is kind of their responsibility to teach them. That's how it works.

I don't know the bakery but I sometimes go to the café for a bagel and a coffee. It's a nice simple place, always full and the coffee tastes great. Everyone who works there seems pretty happy. Personally I think it is way better than Achan (other side of the road) where ordering a coffee (to go) takes so long you might just as well sit down and read a book while you wait.

I think Brooklyn is a great example of how someone (two people in this case) with no Finnish and no previous experience, came to Finland and made a living through entrepreneurship and hard work.

Redcloud41 wrote:Thanks for your reply and the link! I think some people misread our post (because some troll went on our business Facebook page and said some nasty things). My post clearly states its an internship, that is for the summer (by the way 3 hours/3 days a week...which I didn't think i had to specify as its an internship and of course NOT FULL TIME). I said that we decided to also HIRE them after the internship was over because they were so awesome and they of course were paid. The only time I mentioned FULL TIME in my post is when we HIRED THEM.
Your post clearly states it as internship and when I did those as 14-16 year old I did 8h/day and 5 days per week. For week or two at time. When I did stuff for whole summer, I got money for that. Thus my expectation of 30-40h workweeks. Good that you set me straight about the hours.

Also the linked collective agreement mentions "Tutustu työelämään ja tienaa" program that is aimed at youngsters still at school who get to know about working life for two weeks and get paid 350€ for that. Students should be paid according to the collective agreement too and that prompted me to hint about the visit from union reps or some officials.
