Re: Medicines - Summons from Customs for "crime smuggling"
"I did not know" is not a good defense. Using it as your only defense would probably get you a conviction. A lawyer might find a loophole in your situation.alaethea wrote:Hi there,
I had a batch of medicines (with a doctor's prescription and the pharmacy's receipt) couriered to Finland (by DHL) for personal use outside EEA. It was seized by customs and I got an empty package which was signed for by a friend (not me). It happens that I was blissfully unaware that importing medicines is *prohibited* in Finland. Now I have gotten a summons that says I'm a "suspect in crime smuggling", and have an been asked to be there at a certain date. Do you think I should be talking to a lawyer? Thanks.
But I don't know what is cheaper, a fine or a lawyer. Although not having a criminal record is a big plus.

I'm happy paying off the fine if it doesn't go into my criminal history (which I intend to keep squeaky clean).

Hi
Did I understand well what the OP is saying? Does this mean that I cannot bring medicines from my own country into Finland? I for one always have some anti-histaminics with me as well as painkillers and some aspirine. Is that prohibited?

You can "bring" as in suitcase, but your mom can't send them to you. Its all there on Tulli pages.

Even in suitcases there are restrictions that one should get familiar with. This concerns for example quantities and prescriptions.Pursuivant wrote:You can "bring" as in suitcase, but your mom can't send them to you. Its all there on Tulli pages.

Intentions mean little. Facts and actions are paramount.alaethea wrote:I'm happy paying off the fine if it doesn't go into my criminal history (which I intend to keep squeaky clean).
Get the lawyer.
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

Hi, I know this post has been deleted but how much fine did you eventually pay and did it affect your record as a criminal record
