A-Permit holder(cohabitation), but now broke up... advice?
A-Permit holder(cohabitation), but now broke up... advice?
Dear all,
I have an A permit based on family ties (cohabitation), but I've just broken up with my Finnish man. This permit is valid until 2018 summer.
At the moment I am only working freelance, so I don't have any work contract with any Finnish companies. I do have a toiminimi but the business turnover is definitely not enough to prove that it is my means of living. I don't think I will get a bigger turnover with my toiminimi.
So, first question, is my permit valid anymore if I change my address?
Second, if my current permit is not valid once I move out, what should I do if I want to stay? I suppose only a työsopimus allows another A permit? Will a määräaikainen sopimus do?
P.S. I have lived in Finland for almost 5 years. 2 years with B permit, 3 years with A.
Any advice appreciated, thanks!

You satisfy the residence requirement for citizenship.suhokim wrote:P.S. I have lived in Finland for almost 5 years. 2 years with B permit, 3 years with A.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

IF you demonstrate "strong ties", because this is only equiv of 4 years (B permit = ½ time). Without the relationship in place I don't know whether it's still considered strong ties?Beep_Boop wrote:You satisfy the residence requirement for citizenship.suhokim wrote:P.S. A more cynical person than me might suggest getting your YKI asap and postponing the official break-up until citizenship is granted.

I was planning to apply for citizenship this year, and so yes, I already got my YKI last year.
I just want to see if there are other options than officially staying together. I don't want to use my ex like that (even though he probably wouldn't mind), and it is not good for both of us to move on. I mean, even if I apply for the citizenship now, I will have to wait until next year to see my decision...

That's up to you to decide.suhokim wrote:I don't want to use my ex like that (even though he probably wouldn't mind), and it is not good for both of us to move on. I mean, even if I apply for the citizenship now, I will have to wait until next year to see my decision...
AFAIK, if you don't get a job, start studying in higher education, or become a refugee, then you're out of options.
Yup, I wanted to imply that probably it would be worth reconciling some differences with the dude since she satisfies the residence period criteria.leisl wrote:IF you demonstrate "strong ties", because this is only equiv of 4 years (B permit = ½ time). Thanks Beep_Boop.
My utmost concern is, if I move out now, do I lose my permit right away?
What if we are still together but we just live in different place because of work and studies?

No. You only lose the permit once officials have decided to cancel it and you have exhausted all appeals. There's no requirement to notify them. I don't know if they automatically would get the information from the population register. My guess would be that they do not monitor that.suhokim wrote: My utmost concern is, if I move out now, do I lose my permit right away?
You need to make enough not be reliant on social security. If you can prove this, the income can be lower than indicated in Migri tables.suhokim wrote: At the moment I am only working freelance, so I don't have any work contract with any Finnish companies. Does not work. You need to share a household.suhokim wrote: What if we are still together but we just live in different place because of work and studies?
