A couple of days ago my partner and I moved houses. To help us we enlisted the help of a moving company.
The aftermath. A broken wide screen 3D television, a large smashed mirror (vartalopeili) and a bill that was abt 30% higher than what we were quoted. I had to leave fr work halfway through the ordeal (and before anything broke) so I didn't get to be present for the argueing and everything else that ensued.
Our main concern is that my partner did not sign the receipt at the end. At the bottom of the receipt it says "Olen tutustunut kaupan etoihin. Jotka allekirjoituksella hyväksyn" In English: "I've read the terms and conditions of this payment, and with my signature I accept them"
My partner did try to pay but something was wrong with their card scanner, and in the end they walked away without being paid or a signature on their copy of the receipt. (They said they would send us a bill later)
So what are the legal options here? Normally I would assume that with no signature, there was no transaction and with no transaction there is no obligation for them to cover the damages, or for our insurance company to cover us and even any agreement for us to pay them.
The television alone was new and worth something like 3 times more than the inflated price they tried to make us pay in the end. The mirror also wasn't cheap either.
Pleeaaase can someone who knows about these things shed some light on this?

Since they did the work, you do have a contract in place. It would be implied or oral if you never read anything. If you can't settle the issue amicably, check these instructions:ssiimmppuukkaa wrote: So what are the legal options here? Usually the removal company takes an insurance. What is said in your contract, did they take an insurance?

Make an official complain, stating the facts and damages. They should have a professional insurance. It could also be covered by your home insurance - ask them, they will certainly try to reimburse the damages from the moving company.inkku wrote:Usually the removal company takes an insurance.
