A cleaning job with the hours you're describing can indeed support student life. If you don't have drainage expenditures (e.g. smoking), you should have no issue supporting student life with such job, especially with subsidized housing and meals that you get as a student.

If you have marketable skills (which you either don't, or you just suck at making them visible), then you cam earn, as a minimum, 2x the amount needed to support student life. Skills include programming, DevOps, sales, marketing, etc.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Here's a good skill: Googling! Just type "Jobs in Finland" in Google. Lots of results and hints.

In general, it's not difficult to get an English-speaking job in the capital area if you have a few desirable skills. Polish your CV, work on some charm, and start applying. If you send 100 applications, you won't hear from more than half of them, and you'll be instantly rejected by more than half of those who reply. But one (or a few more) will invite you for a chat/interview.

Honestly, don't think of it as something scary. It's like getting a job anywhere else. If the job description is in English + no explicit Finnish requirement + somewhat fits your skills -> Apply. And hey, if you end up not getting anything but cleaning jobs, so be it! We all start somewhere.

Just keep this in your mind: Most of the time, if you don't complicate it, then it doesn't get complicated.

I do hope you find work. But reality check: more than likely you will not get ANY job here. I know you said you have savings, but make sure you are prepared for the possibility that you MUST live off the savings.

That is to say, don't hand back any borrowed money assuming you'll get work. For the vast majority of students it simply doesn't happen. Even so we get students all the time here assuming that they will be the lucky one, or they'll just try harder to get work, and they often don't have a plan for what happens if that fails.

Here is is, coming from an actual student with real-life experience here.

You certainly can work as a student, and as an EU student you can work as many hours as you like, only the Non-EU students are restricted to 20 hours. The problem will be finding a job. Nobody, and I mean nobody in my class has found work. (except for the people who were already living here and now work part time at the their old job) There is an American who says she will have to go home as she assumed she would find work and has not, the tuition is free, but she has run out of money to live on. Finnish seems to be a requirement for basically anything, including cleaning. Of course, if you are an ace programmer or IT person, all bets are off.

Regarding the IT field, so far my experience is that many, if not the majority of companies in the IT field use English as the working language. I'm moving to Finland in just a few days, and I was able to find a part time programming job. Nothing fancy, but I get money for it.

Indeed. But OP has indicated his previous fields were promotions and sales. Those will never work without Finnish, really.

Also remember:
You have to renew you rp yearly: no excuses
You have to show enough studies per semester: no excuses
You have to show the valid health insurance: no excuses
You have to show the money in the bank: guess what, no...

Do not "think/hope/wish" - these all you must have. No need to have excuses.

Do yourself a favour and don't complain at one of the most knowledgeable people on this forum when he's trying to help you. No, you didn't know, but now you do.

25 hours per week working is probably more than you are allowed to work - check the rules that apply to you personally, because in Finland, government departments share data (migri & vero in particular) and the immigration people might find out if you broke that rule. Pursuivant was warning you in advance that your studies must be your top priority and not to return any family money that you might have borrowed in order to get your residence permit approved (no, you are not allowed to use borrowed money to get that RP, but everyone knows people do it, so it's important to know that you might very well need that money to survive).

He's a Finn. We say it bluntly because we don't do polite / meaningless platitudes. It is best not to take offence when none was intended. A good lesson for life in Finland, you could say :)

PS Attention to detail is good.
