In urgent needs of help
In urgent needs of help
Hi groupies. Am new here. Moved to Finland about two and a half months ago. My Finnish husband and i have been married 6 years ago while in my country .we are now in the process of re-registering our marriage in order to get our Finnish marriage certificate and my resident permit, unfortunately, he got struck down by a temporary brain damage which has now developed into a temporal stroke and has been hospitalized since but now gradually recovering little by little. My agony started when my husband got admitted into the hospital. His daughter came to me and asked me to start making alternative plans for my survival as her father (my husband ) is no where close to recovering any time from now which she advised i vacate our rented apartment in order to avoid bills and because living in Finland is very expensive especially me not having a permit to rent on my own or work to support myself for the main time. I asked her for help but unfortunately she insisted i should start making a backup plans. At this point, i became devastated, defenceless and broken because the one whose been my backbone and support is fighting for his health in the hospital. Thanks to our landlord who's also a friend allowed me to retain our apartment. But it did not and there. Am now being deprived my right as a wife to my husband by his family because our Finnish marriage certificate to officially recognise me as a spouse is still in the process. Today i am told I am not welcome in the family as they came to take him for a family visit. It was a very devastating moment for watch them taking my husband and neglecting me asking not to come. Am saying my story hoping someone can understand my pain and help me seek legal help if there's any. Am soo desperate and frustrated right now.

Re: In urgent needs of help
He's your husband. Why are you listening to the daughter?
I am sorry for what has happened to your husbnd and you, but this family of his has no rights to do anything they are doing to you.
Maybe you should get a lawyer involved? It is no longer up to his family to make decisions and do what they want, unless they have power of attorney or were already his guardian.
If there is no guardian. Get a lawyer and apply for it. You are his wife.
Good luck

Agreed. If you have no assets or income, you can get free legal help from the state:Flossy1978 wrote: Maybe you should get a lawyer involved? It is no longer up to his family to make decisions and do what they want, unless they have power of attorney or were already his guardian.

What do you mean with re-registering? There's no such process in Finland. Either you are married or you are not. You do want to get the foreign marriage recognized in Finland. See section 115 forward here:Milady wrote:Hi groupies. Am new here. Moved to Finland about two and a half months ago. No help to you but I will note this for other possible readers. When you get married abroad, make sure to get the Finnish population register immediately updated with the information. This would have avoided Milady all the troubles.
You do not need a residence permit to rent on your own. You should apply for income support from the municipality where the apartment is. For example, in Helsinki:Milady wrote: His daughter came to me and asked me to start making alternative plans for my survival as her father (my husband ) is no where close to recovering any time from now which she advised i vacate our rented apartment in order to avoid bills and because living in Finland is very expensive especially me not having a permit to rent on my own or work to support myself for the main time.

The marriage certificate should not be required to deduce visitation rights on the hospital. The hospital should look into whether you are married on their own:Milady wrote:Am now being deprived my right as a wife to my husband by his family because our Finnish marriage certificate to officially recognise me as a spouse is still in the process. If the resolution of a matter depends on the validity of a marriage, a Finnish authority may determine the validity in connection with the resolution of the said matter, even if the matter of validity would otherwise be inadmissible under paragraph (1).

Gosh I'm so sorry to hear this. Get that lawyer straight away, his family are hoping you never learn what your rights are. First, you have the right to remain in that apartment. They clearly tried to get you out so that if he passes away you are stuck! GRRRRRR. And you have rights to his property in the event of his death (as do his children). Not to mention YOU should be the person who decides on his medical care if he is unable to, which might include whether he goes out for visits. The lawyer should be able to advise you on this. Get that lawyer.
And I hope you have some support. Are you in Helsinki? Monika Naiset might be a source of moral and practical support. Their services do talk a lot about violence, but they also have activities and advisors who can help. You need friends and allies, you can't do this on your own, so reach out and people can help you. http://monikanaiset.fi/en/

Man, this is disgusting. Get a lawyer and hopefully thing will work out in your favor, and let us know how things progress.
I wonder how many cases are like this which are never unheard of.

And keep a diary of how the family has been. Making sure you have dates for every hapening. To keep as some kind of proof.
