Enquiries about Moving abroad Temporally/change of address

Post by myray » Tue Sep 27, 2016 12:59 pm

Please I wish to get some information on this issue. If somebody wants to move abroad temporary for less than a year ,( for reasons such as job search or family leave) does the person have to change his/ her address in the maistraatti as temporary ? If yes, does the person needs to put the address of the country where he/she will be living for the next one year or use post restante? Please all your brilliant ideas are highly welcomed.Thank you all!!!

Yes for moves over three months.

The foreign address. Maistraatti records for living addresses do not accept poste restante (it will be accepted for the mailing address only). If you move to poste restante, you will be marked as homeless which would not match reality for someone who lives abroad.

I had to leave Finland temporarily to go back to US, and I used this online e-service to change my address - http://www.suomi.fi/suomifi/english/ese ... index.html

I hope this helps!

That's a wrong form for move from Finland to US. That form would be for, for example, moves within the US. The correct suomi.fi link is this one:

http://www.suomi.fi/suomifi/english/ese ... index.html

I was actually on that page at first, but the login form is not working. Try the form yourself - Click on the "Change-of-address notification" link, then click on the "Submit a notification" button, then click on ANY of the links on the screen, and it will keep prompting you to Login. I've tried all the links - "Create Posti username", "Forgot your password / username?", "Login with one time credentials". I'm not sure if they have a PDF version where you can print the form and mail it in.
