Dear readers,
I require some taxation help as I am completely and utterly confused.
So, in January 2017 I will start as a PhD student, officially called an "early stage researcher" at UEF in Joensuu and I will be employed by the University. I do not know my exact salary yet but it will be somewhere in the range of 2.1k-2.4k per month + benefits based on my performance (which benefits I am also kind of confused about) if I understood everything correctly. I am a Dutch national myself but I guess this does not really matter since I am staying in Finland for 4 years basically. Is that correct? Of course, I would like to know what I would be taking home per year or per month.
Thanks a lot for your help!
Greetings,
Alwin

A rough estimation using the calculator posted above would be 1.6-1.8k
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Maybe bonuses? Benefits like car, housing, phone etc. are counted as part of your wage and thus are taxed too: https://www.vero.fi/en-US/Precise_infor ... 016(38873)AlwinH wrote: + benefits based on my performance (which benefits I am also kind of confused about)

Hey Alwin
Neem effe contact op met de Nederlandse vereniging in Finland, daar zijn genoeg mensen te vinden die een antwoord op al je vragen hebben. NVIF website: http://www.nederlandsevereniging.fi/
In English for the other forum members:
Contact the dutch association in Finland, there are enough people to find with an answer on all your questions...etc. etc.

And check the bilateral tax agreements between the Netherlands and Finland for any special clauses relating to researchers. I know that French researchers, for example, don't pay income tax in Finland...
