You may ask them, but they are not from Finland. IIRC they are actually Turkish people. Also beware that anything you ask them, they will try to convince you that the case is strong and that you need their services.brexit wrote: You may ask these people here. http://finnishimmigrationlaw.com/ They might even give you some hint if the case is strong or not.

They asked for additional documents in May, yet I haven't heard from them ever since.
Should I be worried?

I don't think so. It took me longest time in "In Progress" stage, approx 7 months. at the end it was all good.
Also depends on what docs were asked and how did you presented them.
If your overall time is more than the mentioned waiting time, then you should call citizenship cases number. They are helpful in some cases.
Also now its summer vacation time and I believe most of officers are at vacation. So stay tuned. It will be fine.

A quick update about the application of a friend of mine. He applied in mid-March and got a positive decision during early July.

Yes it is March 2017
Re: Citizenship Application 2016/2017
I wonder why there are such big differences in waiting periods, sometimes 4 months, sometimes over a year. Does it depends on the speed on which your original country answers the Migri request about checking your criminal record?gowthas wrote:A quick update about the application of a friend of mine. If you come from a country like the UK, where the justice system works decently the process goes quickly, if you come from a failed state in southern europe or africa where public servants don't even bother to answer it might take forever

I think it depends on each individual case. Timelines are shared in this thread only tell us how fast/slow applications are processed in general. However, we all don't know the nature of those applications. Maybe they have very good professional background, very long time living in Finland or Finnish spouses (family, children here?)

This friend of mine who received a positive decision in around 4 months has a PhD and has been working for a company in Finland for about a year now. He is from outside the EEA area and married to a non-Finnish girl who already has a Finnish citizenship. He clearly has a good professional background, but I am not sure if that helped in making speedy decision.
Re: Citizenship Application 2016/2017
Non-Finnish with a Finnish Citizenship sounds weird though. I think once you are citizen of Finland you are Finnish (of course not ethnically but legally)gowthas wrote:Y77 wrote:I wonder why there are such big differences in waiting periods, sometimes 4 months, sometimes over a year. I am not sure if one can become "FINNISH" just by acquiring the nationality. Once I was told, there are two terms exist in spoken Finnish: Suomalainen ja Suomen-kansalainen

In case you acquire the citizenship through application they call it citizenship by naturalization. For example, here: http://www.migri.fi/finnish_citizenship/nordic_citizen
they say that if you have acquired a Nordic citizenship through naturalization you are not eligible for becoming a Finnish citizen through the route for Nordic citizens.
But, I think even if your spouse has become a Finnish citizen through naturalization, you would still be eligible to apply with a shorter period of residency (e.g. 4 years of continuous residence instead of 5). I have not seen anything stating otherwise on Migri website.

I have a PHD from the university of life and I'm married to a real finnish woman, I applied 2 weeks ago and my ID has been proved, hopefully I'll get the decision from Migri together with the Xmas presentsgowthas wrote:Y77 wrote:I wonder why there are such big differences in waiting periods, sometimes 4 months, sometimes over a year.
