Just over 5 months, not bad. Does anybody know if the applications are dealt with at the service point where you proved your identity or if there is a central office somewhere that makes the decisions?

No, they did not ask for any supplementary document, but I uploaded my previous payslips before they ask. Maybe that's the reason.

Now I'm having second thoughts and leaning towards getting him as well. Is adding the parents consent along with the child's passport details etc. in the additional documents section of the online application will be enough or do I need to do something more?

I think you need to call to the Finnish immigration and ask for clarification on this. You cannot rely on information from anybody here because individual situation is not always obtainable standard in Finland. But hearing from somebody with similar situation in the past can be helpful to you.
