Re: Judicial System
There is close to no information to evaluate the decision of the court in the article.
Re: Judicial System
Exactly - kind of my point. Such important decisions: in actuality plus perceptions of the public.
No real information - but superficially plenty there to rile up the populace. One would think the courts would have some way to give full stories - I haven't checked net publications of the Oikeusministeriö - but in previous experiences, very little found.

Re: Judicial System
Just being the devils advocate here, but how long would you like them to remain in custody then? They admitted some of the offences the article reads so it will go most likely to court and they will get sentenced. Justice served, at least according to the law. They are no violent criminals that pop you the moment you look weird at them so there is no danger of bodily harm (which might be a compelling reason for the suspects to remain in custody).harryc wrote:Exactly - kind of my point. If you disagree with the law (which is a total different discussion by the way), I would like to encourage you to please use your right to vote for someone that is willing to change these according to your liking. You might consider to go into politics yourself and see if others of the same opinion will vote for you.
If I read the article, I think it is a wise precaution for doing on-line business, which the police is communication to the public this way, something one should always do, now accompanied with an example...
But that is my humble opinion
If god would give us the source code, we could change the world
Re: Judicial System
I wasn't taking any particular stand.
The amount of info the public has gotten has been at a complete minimum - certainly not enough for people to make up their minds about what kind of 'custody' should apply**** - and certainly not enough for anyone to be interested in changing any laws.
*** A prohibition of 'business' until a trial held might be appropriate

That wouldn't work as they operated as individuals, not business. You'd need to close their accounts or something like that. Not many would pay cash in hand without getting or even seeing the item they are buying.harryc wrote:I wasn't taking any particular stand.

I didn't mean 'business' - but 'business.'
It wouldn't seem to be against human and/or civil rights to put a hold on their possibility to 'operate' - even as individuals.
That's the kind of question that an active press could be reporting on - instead we just got 'headlines.'

Anyone can ask the "kirjaamo" of the district court for the full decision. Court decisions are a matter of public record with some very limited exceptions.harryc wrote:The amount of info the public has gotten has been at a complete minimum - certainly not enough for people to make up their minds about what kind of 'custody' should apply**** - and certainly not enough for anyone to be interested in changing any laws.

How would you do it? If they have an account, phone and way to advertise they can keep on operating.harryc wrote:I didn't mean 'business' - but 'business.'

Those would be details that are in some official's portfolio - I don't even know if is within the existing legislative framework.
It just occurred to me that income is taxable and required to be reported - as well as the source of that income - so I could think there are possible controls available.
If a prosecutor has started a case against alleged criminal activity - it does seem logical that one could be prohibited from that activity until a decision has been reached.
Just saying.

Re: Judicial System
Indeed. You are prohibited from criminal activity. Fraud is fraud and these people just keep on frauding even if there is an ongoing court case.harryc wrote:If a prosecutor has started a case against alleged criminal activity - it does seem logical that one could be prohibited from that activity until a decision has been reached.
