Working hours, possible redution.

Hi,

My friend (yup, it is really someone else ) has been working for a year on a contract that does not stipulate the hours. He's been working full time* but has been told that his is a 0 hour contract and, if necessary his hours can be reduced. Is this possible and under what circunstances?
The company is currently preparing some cuts and it is possible that there will not be work for all the 10 people working there full time, plus a few part-timers.
My friend was advised by someone (not a lawyer nor HR specialist) that after 6 months working full time they can not reduce it beyond 30 hours week (about 130/h month). Is this true?

*By full time I mean that he has been given between 160 and 170 hours of work every month, sometimes more. There's no monthly pay, he's paid by the hour.

I believe a 0 hour contract can be a 0 hours allocation and there is nothing wrong with that one.

On subject, my friend sent me a email he got from TE services which confirms that the contract is now indeed a full time contract given the fact that the company has been giving workers full time hours for over a year. The email also confirms that if the company has economic reason to shorten the amount of work it needs give employees only one month notice.

Seriously though, thanks for replying . Forums like these are quickly going the way of the carriage horse and less and less people are inputting, which is prob contagious.
