Laptop replacement battery
Laptop replacement battery
Hi,
I need to get my laptop's battery replaced. Its a Dell Inspiron 7559. I checked with a local repair shop in Tampere and they told me it would cost 220 eur for a new battery (74Wh). That sounds quite expensive to me which is why I'm looking at other options.
Is it possible to order from Amazon or Aliexpress and have it delivered? What kind of duty charges would be applicable in this case?
If I cant have it delivered, is there a cheaper alternative where I could maybe get a slightly used battery because mine is pretty much dead weight at this point.
Thanks.

Re: Laptop replacement battery
first of all the shipping of lithium batteries can be a problem due to the fire risk. I ordered a UPS from amazon in the UK once and it was returned to their warehouse several times due to a lithium battery warning on the box (i'm still not sure what this referred to since with a UPS the main batteries are lead acid, perhaps a tiny lithium button cell?).
secondly I would avoid aliexpress for these kind of batteries - at least if you want a battery that matches the stated capacity and will work after a month. Even Amazon is not immune and if you order from them you should make sure the seller is amazon themselves and not a third party seller. There are all kinds of shenanigans from aliexpress - memory cards with fake packaging that promise 128G but in reality they are 2G cards with the header data rewritten to appear to be 128G (will work ok if you don't write more than 2G to the card).
sadly the problem with dell in Finland is that they don't market to consumers here, mostly businesses. This pushes up the prices quite a lot because businesses are not very price sensitive.
The most success with batteries i've had is ebay in the uk and people in the UK selling surplus batteries (especially for thinkpads 3-4 years old). They look official and have a good capacity. I make sure the seller is in the UK though and not somebody in china listing things on ebay. I'm not sure about shipping to finland for these though, i had them sent to a relative in the UK for me to collect. I think I paid about 30 pounds for a high capacity thinkpad battery.

Since UK is still EU you don't need to pay VAT and if the price (including shipping) is below €150,- there is no import tax.
Re: Laptop replacement battery
google akkukauppa, there are various companies selling laptop batteries

You'll need to pay either the UK VAT or Finnish VAT, depending how much the sellers does business to Finland.rinso wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2019 1:44 pmOn Ebay they'll cost around € 100,- (from the UK)uh90 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2019 4:44 amHi,

edit. eg. I bought some booze from seller in Germany few years ago and now got mail from them that they should have put the prices with Finnish VAT but that they will eat the difference. Dunno how they fared with our alcohol tax as they surely didn't pay that...

Re: Laptop replacement battery
Thank you all for the replies. I am going to try and contact akkukauppa to see if they can arrange one (they dont have it listed on their site). Hopefully i can get this replaced in a reasonable price.
Re: Laptop replacement battery
Can I get your old one? I will recycle them instead of burning them like normally with lithium ion batteries.
If you live in Espoo I can come and pick it up

If god would give us the source code, we could change the world
