Free DNA broadband!?

Post by agroot » Mon Apr 29, 2019 9:28 pm

I was able to apply for DNA broadband 10M for free today. No charge, no contract (I couldn't apply with the 24 month contract with modem). Is it really free? Why? :D I just moved to my new home and there is no mention of free Internet on rental contract.

Since it will come with no modem I suppose I'll need to order it from DNA website, the DG200AC? Do I need to buy the cables and set it up myself, or the DNA installation guy will do it for me when he/she comes for broadband?

Probably the house has fiber to the cellar and the 10M is free so you'll upgrade to proper speed in exchange for money.

DNA website or verkkokauppa.com or jimms.fi. Or gigantti or power. You'll get the modem and probably pay the same if you want someone to come and install it. All the cables have been already done by the operator, they just press a button to enable your connection. You just set up the modem, so 2 or three cables and maybe some wlan configuration and it should work.

I also have this "free" 10M internet. How can I upgrade it? I have to call the company or can it be done online? How can I know what company it is? It was already installed when I moved in 😁

Eh? You don't know what is your ISP? Have you tried google? I just searched what is my isp and clicked the first result and got right answer...

Oh good point. But how about upgrading? I just have to give them a call once I know the company?

you can normally upgrade the speed online especially if it's a block of flats where the management company has done a deal with one of the operators and there is some kind of remotely provisioned router in the basement. the "upgrade" is just a matter of the operator sending a message to the router to increase the speed of the connection from the router to your individual flat.

Ordered! But if they just need to push a button, can I set it up myself and call them to enable, instead of waiting for two weeks?

Yup. Normal way is that they (the isp) either give you the modem or send it by mail and you plug it in. Sometimes (cable modems?) you inform them about your mac address, but usually that isn't needed if they provide the modem. I wonder how many *dsl/cable modems I have in my box of ancient electronics...

I still have the old cable modem from DNA (Cisco) with tv signal data splitter and adapter and antenna cable, bought it for 35, you can have it for 15€

I moved to another house in January that has no DNA cable (welho) so it is useless to me now.

Otherwise I will, recycle it myself (hence electronics is my hobby anyway). Only the 12V adapter already costs 15€

Its a modem with one 1Gb LAN port (for UTP cable), no Wifi, so you will need to connect a router to it if you want more than 1 pc or wifi connected tot he internet.

It turns out the Internet is already activated in the apartment! Silly me. Didn't check the sockets. Landlord didn't tell, no need of modem at all. Too bad I already ordered.

this has become quite common especially after major rewiring or plumbing work. there is an ethernet connection from the basement to each flat ending in the fuse box. inside the fuse box are sockets with a cable leading to each ethernet socket in the flat (there might be many). there is a short 20cm cable inside the box to link up the incoming internet to whichever room you want the connection. alternatively there is a power socket in the fusebox to connect a small router and then you can wire in all the rooms to the internet connection. Normally the basic speed is free (eg 10Mbit) and for a fee you can upgrade it to 20, 50, 100 or more. This upgrading is what I mentioned in a previous post.

If you ordered the new modem online, you have a 14 or 30 days return time, so do not unpack it and return to sender, claim your money back.

good luck

@riku2: Yes that's exactly what I found out after opening the electricity box! :D

@Piet: Thanks! already opened though. It does look nice and the functionalities are good, although a bit pricey for a WiFi router. The brand "Inteno" doesn't seem to exist elsewhere.
