Noisy washing machine
Noisy washing machine
I love the washing machine bought when I moved in, a top loading type with a rotating drum inside (we never have that in East Asia!), but when it's drying clothes there are really loud noises like knocking inside several times.
Now I'm afraid of using it in early morning or after 9pm because of that - the noise would be very loud too for my neighbors I suppose. Does this happen to everyone? Do people install the "Anti-Vibration Mat" below (another thing unheard of in my backward country)? Or something around the walls to absorb sound?
BTW my washing machine is not sitting on dry ground as water could get there - usually it's me cleaning up ground by bidet shower but water from bath could reach there too - bad for the mat rubber??

When you say "knocking," do you mean like the drum hitting the sides of the machine hard while spinn8ng? It's supposed to be prevented from doing that by at least three strong springs inside. When one of them breaks, the drum can hit the side. Neither a mat nor vibrational isolation foot cups will help that problem.agroot wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 1:54 pmI love the washing machine bought when I moved in, a top loading type with a rotating drum inside (we never have that in East Asia!), but when it's drying clothes there are really loud noises like knocking inside several times.

If a second spring breaks while the drum is spinning at centrifuge speed, that can cause a really violent crack-up that severely deforms the outer shell of the washing machine, possibly damaging things next to it or even tearing a water hose loose and causing a huge leak.
Google images of "exploded washing machine." They aren't technically "exploded," but that's how people tend to describe the event.
If it's making hard knocking sounds when it spins, it needs professional inspection and likely repair. Even a relatively skilled DIY repairer would not have the specialized tool needed to replace the spring.
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

The shocks/damper could be on the way out, If its lasted 5 years i would just get a new one, im on my third machine and have made the mistake of repairing one just for it to totally die 3 months later.
And the latest one had no concrete in it, so was so much easier getting in place.

Thanks for the warning! I have the noise since the first day. How can I check it myself?AldenG wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 5:46 pmWhen you say "knocking," do you mean like the drum hitting the sides of the machine hard while spinn8ng? Re: Noisy washing machine
Is it still under guarantee from the store you bought it? If you bought second hand, then sounds like you bought a broken machine.
Re: Noisy washing machine
Yes it's new. So it's not normal? I heard same noises in a temporary apartment I lived.
will check tomorrow.

Re: Noisy washing machine
Some things to check.
1. Most washing machine have some 'transport bolts' that should be removed before you use the machine. Details will be in the instruction manual.
2. Have you adjusted the feet so that the machine does not move/wobble when you push on the top corners.
3. It is quite normal for machines to bang a few times when the spin cycle starts as it takes a few rotations of the drum to evenly distribute the clothes around the drum. If it bangs all the time then you have an issue.

Yes the banging is like 3 loud bangings in a second when spinning starts. Then no banging. The noise comes from inside not the feet. It seems to only happen to some modes such as jean washing but not delicate mode.
