wow thanks, a lot of details in the link, I assume this amount (3600 euro is net, right?). Yeah I live for sure, it's not crazy comfortable but it's ok. Thanks, again.mialankinen wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 4:32 pm
For a family of three, it may cost you about €3600 per month to live outside of the Greater Helsinki and €4430 to live in the Helsinki City Center, but these expenses may vary greatly depending on your family needs. So €6000 looks okay to live comfortably in Finland![]()

yes, 9.00 euro for one beer at the bar and soon you realize 3600 eur is peanuts.

Re: Moving to Finland from US
Honestly, alcohol is not our problem as we drink minimal, so you mean 3600 euro net is peanuts? I hope not

I assume this is the net cost plus any social benefit, right?FinlandGirl wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 6:30 pmYour cost of living calculator fails to deduct the income tax, or calculate social security benefits they are entitled to.mialankinen wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 4:32 pmYou can calculate your monthly costs with this cost of living calculator: <linkspam removed>

3600.00 euro net is peanuts with wife and kid, unless you get some stipend for unemployed spouse and child allowance.

6000 euro gross is good salary on it's own but with wife and kid and settling expenses, deposit for an apartment etc, you will be in for a little bit of a struggle until wife's salary kicks in or some other benefit.

Re: Moving to Finland from US
yes, I get that. We'll bring money with us for deposit and some basic furnitures, I assume we'll check IKEA.

I would not trust linkspam aiming at generating traffic for a newly created website.billio wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 7:12 pmI assume this is the net cost plus any social benefit, right?FinlandGirl wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 6:30 pmYour cost of living calculator fails to deduct the income tax, or calculate social security benefits they are entitled to.mialankinen wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 4:32 pmYou can calculate your monthly costs with this cost of living calculator: <linkspam removed>

Definitely not when they do not even know the difference between gross and net - €6000 has to be gross, for a net salary this would be far too high for Finland.
Median gross income in Finland is around €3000, lowest salaries are around €1500.
On the income side you should be an average household for a family of 3, give or take a few hundred Euro (tax is progressive, but your wife gets some unemployment benefits).
Without a mortgage you are financially in a good position, not rich but also without having to worry about money.
