My apologies if you found it condescending, was definitely not my intention. What I meant is that if you start your salary negotiating from your basic needs, you might end up asking for a way too low salary. That you should keep up the industry standards, and negotiate the salary based on your professional background and position, and then verify whether it is sufficient for the kind of life you want to live.jjburklo wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 10:52 pmI'm not sure answering this question is any of your business to be honest. My question was to determine the cost of living for a family of 4. I have found some useful information from other posters. Not sure how your condescending post is helpful.inkku wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 4:13 pmAm I the only one who is puzzled by this question? Are you basing your salary request on your family expenses instead of an acceptable salary level for that specific job? If you have specific knowledge and education, you will definitely be able to sustain a family in Finland. What differs is how much extra you will save or have at your disposal for eating out etc.

@FinlandGirl - you mentioned 6000 EUR is very high - is this before or after tax? is there a good calculator to calculate living expenses in Finland?FinlandGirl wrote: ↑Fri Nov 20, 2020 12:04 pmFor a single salary 6000 Euro is very high, and 8000 Euro usually not realistic at all.

If your family needs a residence permit, then the legal requirement is at least 2600 Euro after taxes and social security.
This is also a realistic estimate what is necessary to make ends meet.
