Check out the comment of petback-125 from the last year forum (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=99023&start=315 , page 22, starts with “I personally work as a social worker”), who claims to be having an insight on how Migri citizenship processing works, maybe it will give you some idea 🤷🏼‍♀️

I quite agree that it sometimes looks unfair, but I think every case is individual and also much depends on the personnel handling it. My Turkish friend last year got stuck on the 2nd stage for half a year and when they granted him the citizenship, they explained that it got delayed because person who handled his application got transferred to another dept. due to covid matters.

And I don’t think that if your application is in first stage that means that nobody has checked it... A lot of guys in these forums wrote that their status changed from 1 to 3 in one moment.
Let me just correct you I do NOT get any inside info from migri. I just happened to be lawyer in my home country with master from here in finland in international law (including international refugee law), and working as "sosiaalialan ohjaaja" in Helsinki. That all gives me a bit of perspective that´s all. I myself inquire about my application by calling them and I´ve been waiting for 5 and a half months like anybody else.
Migri has written on their own website that we do not process any other info before the identity processing. "Maahanmuuttovirasto ei tutki muita kansalaisuuden saamisen edellytyksiä ennen kuin hakijan henkilöllisyys on selvitetty."
and here is the link of it
https://migri.fi/henkilollisyyden-selvittaminen

I also have read a negative decision that one of the customers at my work got, and it was written in it that "as the identity could not be proved due to contradicting info given by the applicant, Migri does not have to continue with processing the application or any other documents ". The customer had provided contradicting info regarding his date of birth.
This all proves that the identity proving is the absolute first thing that happens with the application before any further processing.

As for the queue thing. Migri is not lying there r 2 lines one is shorter than the other. I happen to be at the short line, where there r less than 1700 persons at the date on which i visited the service point. I never seen the 3000 queue number. And i have never been refugee I came as student, so no its not one for all and the other is for refugees, like some say in the forum.
The queue number however does not mean anything since migri according to their own statement "does not process the application necessarily in the order of queue", because the process might go so fast for someone while lasts long for another.

How long have you been waiting?
Hi there and thanks for your follow up on this and your very interesting comments! It’s good to hear this kind of info from somebody who understands the law and has had some experience including both personal and non-personal ones. Somehow I never saw that article about identity, not that I’m worried about mine but perhaps it would be useful to somebody in this forum.

Since there is more than one queue and your own queue number doesn’t mean anything as they could process your application basically at any time, I’m just curious why there is such thing as queue number in general. Maybe for an effect of a surprise since several ppl got their decisions here lately being at around 3000 in the queue (so we don’t hate Migri that much🤣). But on the other hand it is more confusing for the others who had their queue number jump forth and back for months... Not sure how useful is this tool to be honest 😅

I’m waiting for a little bit more than 3 months, so nothing dramatic. I’m just hoping to get the decision soonest since my RP expires in the end of April and I don’t want to pay almost 300 for the extended RP if it’s gonna last few more months or even weeks...
JUST AN INFORMED GUESS: The purpose of the queue is to babysitting ppl so they wouldnt keep on bothering them, that´s all.
The number u get in the queue is the number of those who been to the service point before you and are still waiting (their own statement not mine). That is not, however, the order i which they decide on your application (their own statement not mine). Once the identity is cleared applications are divided by the workers in the kansalaisuusyksikkö, where some workers are faster than others and some are more strict than others. If your "decider" is on a holiday ur application is waiting on his computer. If he sees someone else has his application more well done and clearer then yours he might decide on that application first. The only thing you can do is to be specific, well organized and fill the application carefully and properly.

Funny thing i just got to know from migri that the line in which i am is the slow line, although the number is very low in that line. The reason being that i had muukalaispassi (alien´s passport) not a national passport at the visit in the service point. They said however they expect me to be faster than the 19 months said, because my identity is well established already. I know however some got it in 3 months and they had alien´s passport. Very vague people indeed! just holding onto their said processing time to push back on inquiries. I guess all we can do is wait :/

You have been claiming that you are lawyer and you studied in Finland and now working in Finland with that position you have mentioned above. Yet you had an alien passport which means that you applied for asylum in Finland and got accepted somehow. That only is enough to not take you serious and not believe what you say. Hopefully you understand what I mean. And yes, you are gonna wait 19 months like everyone else, you have no priority. Get used to that. Now you will most likely reply because I know you are a fraud, but believe me I don’t care. Will just ignore 🤣

I understand that the waiting can be frustrating but please, let's respect one another and restore some decorum.

Educated people can also be in need of asylym and get it. You have a warped idea about asylym seeking. There are also situations in which other people need to get an Alien’s passport.

Migri is legally required to be able to give individual estimates on processing time.

Some people confuse Pakolaisen matkustusasiakirja with Muukalaispassi, two different things.
Thousands of people got their muukalaispassi because of difficulties imposed by corona, which made it difficult to go to home country for passport renewal.

I have been waiting for about 12 months now.
In my case, my guess is Migri has decided I am eligible no sooner than 5 years of A-type residence. I applied when my 4-year count had been reached. It looks like for some people the 4 year criterian does not apply. Again, on the basis of others' narratives I assume 4 years of A-type residence is sufficient only if at least one of the followings applies to you:

- You have a Finnish spouse.
- You do not depend on financial social benefits when your application is being processed. (In other words, you have a full-time job).
- You have a child or children.
- You have a piece of property in Finland.
- You initially came to Finland as an asylum seeker

If none of the above applies to you, then you will need five years of A-type residence before you receive a positive decision.

Apart from all you listed, is there any other way to live in Finland??

Yes, there are other ways. One example is this: Your spouse, who is also a non-Finn, has a job. You are unemployed and you have a residence permit on the basis of family ties.
