What "constitutional right" are you referring to?
Which article of our constitution?
10 years ago these means-tested benefits were not paid to people who already have sufficient means of support.

Regarding the means of support/income requirements,
When applying for citizenship with a period of B permit as a student, was anyone ever required to pay taxes on living expenses sent by parents from outside of Finland?
For example one came as a student, lived and studied for 4 years using parents' funds (B permit) and then worked for another 2 years after graduation (A permit). How does one proved that first source of income? and does one has to pay taxes on the money he received from outside of Finland?

Hi! Interesting question, I’m curious what others have to say about this....akuno_hime_1412 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 5:19 pmRegarding the means of support/income requirements,

I am also interested since during my B student period I was as well on “parental sponsorship”. I have proved means of support by having necessary sum on my account in home country, then just using card/cash to pay in Finland. Not sure what kind of taxes you have to pay for doing this... They didn’t ask any of this in the application or during the interview, so I guess it’s enough that you have proved it already when applying for your B residence permits. *Please somebody correct me if you have some other info.*
My friend told me that they have asked her to provide means of supports for a year when she was studying masters being on A-type RP and receive money from parents. She just said that it was a support from parents and it was enough for Migri

Re: Citizenship Application 2021
When applying for first student permit from abroad one is likely not a Finnish tax resident. Once tax resident, Finnish gift tax rules kick into play. A savy student will design money transfers so that taxes are minimized. Migri is not Vero so a positive decision on a residence permit application does not imply that tax matters are in order.Jbesson wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 6:12 pmI am also interested since during my B student period I was as well on “parental sponsorship”. Re: Citizenship Application 2021
So does money sent from abroad classified as gift or income?
Students have to secure a fund of at least 6720e per year, usually a bank statement is enough to prove means of support. And though Migri isn't Vero, at least they could have been clearer about the tax regulations.
Also as far as I know, with an earning of 6720 per year, one pays 0% of tax

It depends on the transfer. Transfers from abroad can be either or then something else than those two options.akuno_hime_1412 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 6:35 pmSo does money sent from abroad classified as gift or income?

I should have included that for gift tax there's a separate definition of tax residency although there's a shared element with income tax.betelgeuse wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 6:20 pmWhen applying for first student permit from abroad one is likely not a Finnish tax resident. Re: Citizenship Application 2021
Migri's processing time checker has been changed. It now shows 5-19 months. This is quite bizarre. By giving that wide range, I guess Migri just wants to neglect its responsibility to give an estimated processing time to the customers.
Re: Citizenship Application 2021
Today I sent an email to Migri. Because 1 month ago I got a reply, saying that they are processing the queue which I am in and there aren’t many people in front of me. So I would get decision less than a month.
And they answered my today’s email right away : “ We are sorry that our colleague gave you an estimation. We are understaffed and bla bla...”
So I replied: “ Does that mean that your colleague misinformed me about the situation of my application? Why should he?”
Their reply: “ At the time my colleague replied, the situation was like that and now it didn’t happen. New waiting time is 19 months”
Is migri a joke? What could possibly happened that my estimation gone skyrocketed? Btw I’m talking about stage 2. Because my application is still in stage 1. I believe that the person replied me a month ago should not given that info to me and now they don’t know how to answer. I honestly stopped waiting. I wasn’t traveling because it might effect the decision but know I will enjoy my holidays

Re: Citizenship Application 2021
Hi, do you send them email in Finnish language or English? Checking the thread I could see you applied in March 2020, is that right? They told a friend last month they are processing applications submitted in September 2019, if you applied March 2020 then how come they told you last month they will process yours in a month's time, it means they just lie to people anyhow?
Re: Citizenship Application 2021
Well, they have already given decisions on the cases filed in Nov 2020. There are two recent examples in this thread alone. Migir doesn't have a transparent process. The decision depends upon various factors apparently. The person handling the case seems to be one. The country of origin of the application also makes a huge difference in how the application is handled.NaLeKoNa wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 12:27 amHi, do you send them email in Finnish language or English? Re: Citizenship Application 2021
Hi. Always in Finnish. That could be the other queue (this is what they claim). Your friend either got rp after arriving Finland or his country is on the list or he doesn’t have a national passport. This is my guess. But then again it’s migri, they are mysterious lolNaLeKoNa wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 12:27 amHi, do you send them email in Finnish language or English? Re: Citizenship Application 2021
So which month are they processing now, do you've any idea? How long have you been waiting and is your country on the list? This list doesn't make sense, as anyone who is corrupt can fake his identity, I think for people to live here for long and extend their RP many times, it doesn't make sense when applying for citizenship you now tell them their identity is not well established or they need to investigate, why give them RPs first if you think their identities are not reliable? Migri is just making silly excuses to keep applications for long!!SMUN wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 7:43 amWell, they have already given decisions on the cases filed in Nov 2020. Re: Citizenship Application 2021
Yeah his country is on the list unfortunately! They say "Suomi on taso-arvo maa" but they are showing otherwise in the processing of applications. It should be first come, first served if they really wanna show equality in treatment of people, not someone putting application in November 2020 and getting decision in 3 months while the one who put in September 2019 is still waiting on stage 1, totally unfair!!maskara wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 10:26 amHi.
