Hi all! I am planning to apply in the end of this year.

Question: have you (or anybody you know) applied 2 months earlier than 4 years mark? How did it go with identification process in Migri, were there any questions?

With this waiting time I want to apply earlier to save at least couple of months.
I did exactly that, this past August (two months ahead of my four-year mark). I don't think you have much to lose by applying two months early, as the residency requirement (four years, in your case) shouldn't come into play until processing begins, which will take a while. My application timing was not mentioned when I "proved my identity" at migri in August. The clerk said there is a lengthy queue at the moment, so how long it will take is anyone's guess.

Best of luck!

May I know which country you are from? It is very disheartening that they are processing 2022 March applications while many of us who applied in 2021 and 2020 are waiting for processing.

Hi!

I’m from Southeast asia, been here for 9 years through family ties since I was 16. I actually wasn’t expecting to get any result this year since I’ve been following this forum and reading how long people have been waiting for their decision.
Congratulations that your waiting time didn’t take much time 🎈🎊🎉. Do you remember how many applications were ahead of you when you got your diary number?

Hey, what is a processing time for permanent residence permit now? Is it really 12 months or not?

Current processing time is 12-15 months. Some people have got it earlier like within a week while most spend waiting longer. The processing depends on which city you make your application. When did you apply?

Does application submision location really affect the processing time?

Thats for PR not citizenship. My understanding is that some cities process applications faster than others (for PR).

I can apply for it only in August 2023 and my A permit ends in November 2023. I'm just wondering which permit will be issued faster (A or P) if I'll have to wait for citizenship decision for a relatively long time. I'm already waiting for citizenship over 15 months, have no idea if I'll get it in one year.

Is that also EU right of residence for family members?

I'm confused. Why do you say that you can apply for PR only in Aug 2023. If you have already applied for citizenship then it means that you are eligible to apply for PR also. PR applications have the least priority. You will not get the decision any time soon. A permit is faster. But considering your case, you are already waiting for over 15 months for citizenship, I would suggest to wait a little longer before you apply since you have nearly a year before your A permit ends. You might get your decision soon.

May I ask when you applied for citizenship and your current queue number?

I got also confused with this message. If person is eligible to apply for PR only in August 2023, how could he file an application for citizenship and already waiting for the citizenship decision for 15 months?

I moved to Finland as a student and lived here with B type permit for five years. Then I found a job and made an A type permit as an employed person. The reason why I didn't apply for P permit yet is that applicant must live in Finland for full 4 years with A type permit before applying for permanent. For the citizenship application works the rule "two years with B permit = one year with A", so study time can be included in period of residency.
I think it is a common situation for ex students, when it is possible to apply for citizenship before permanent permit.

I applied in end of July 2021. Current queue number is about 2470, started with 7800.
Also I have friends who got decision in 7-9 months in past 2 years.

You have already waited long enough. You should most likely get your decision before your A permit ends(Nov 2023) since you have over a year time for that. Worst case scenario, if you are still in the waiting till August 2023, go with A permit.

Did you try sending emails or calling them? Not sure if that would help. But there is nothing wrong in trying. Only if more and more people complain, they might take some measures to speed up the processing.

If We are talking about the citizenship, you never know how long it will take’s. Migri updated applicants who applied 2020. They will get the decision bfore 2023. I suggest to you send them to message explain the situation bfore the valid permit ending .If I were you I go with A permit bfore it expires.

As I know officially you can not get citizenship if you have unpaid a study loan. And it should be paid fully before application.
I don't know if it is your case or not.
There is no way that is true. The wording is incredibly clear

"If you have not paid your debts, we will investigate whether or not you have fundamentally neglected your obligation to pay"

You can't get citizenship if you have basically told the owners of your debt to "go **** themselves" and refused to pay. If you have been paying off your debts monthly, in good conscience and faith. Then there is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all. The problem is if you have refused to pay or neglected your obligation to pay, in that you are consistently having problems paying your debts.

In Mamu's case, it depends on how long he's been paying and what the circumstances are. Having a 'debt' from Kela overpaying you is basically a right of passage in Finland  they are so useless and incompetent that many suspect that they deliberately overpay you in order to claim the money back at a later date.

I know literally over 100 people who got citizenship and whom still had student loan debts. Many got citizenship without ever having paid a cent on those debts yet, because they were not asked (yet) by the banks to pay.
The average Somali and Iraqi costs Finland €12,000 per person, per year.
