Just for statistics.

Russian, visited Migri eleven months ago, queue number ~3k, still stage one. Residence permit expires soon so time to extend it. Again

Sometimes I think if applicant don't get citizenship in 6-7 month, he/she has to wait for a really long period of time to be processed. But anyway, I don't want to scare you. So best wishes with getting decision soon

Congrats! Would you please share the insights about the process you learned from your case officer?
Thank you Maria!
I think the most important insight the officer gave me was a more accurate estimation of the waiting time.
Interesting, did he mention any reason for the delay? Like lack of officers at Migri or waiting for a response from some other authority?
The officer wrote that they were waiting for "other authorities".

Hello. I am filling out the EnterFinland citizenship form. Can you please tell me if I still need to attach payslips or not? Websites have different information.

Hmmm... that's interesting. What if they just didn't change enterfinland application form yet?
As we see from migri news, you don't need to attach any payslips.

The Finnish Immigration Service has started to use the Incomes Register on 19 January 2023. You or your employers do not need to attach documents about wages, salaries, benefits or pensions paid to you in Finland to your application.

Same situation, bro, sama juttu  Confirmation visit to Migri in the beginning of May, about 3600 now and the curve of "application numbers before" really slow down after 4500, that means that we both not in the first folder.

What is making the "queue" so long and slow now, besides bigger amount of applications received in the last years, is that so many of them are poorly filled and Migri spends much extra effort in trying to "fix" and investigating them instead of just rejecting. That's why they are always stressing for people not to submit applications before fulfilling all of the requirements.
Been saying this for ages. You don't need to be a genius to know that if you're waiting 3 years it's because your host country has terrible processes and/or you filled out the forms terribly and are likely missing tons of documents. As Migri said, 90% of applicants are getting an answer within 2 years which is generally how long they say it will take.

Other counties Denmark, UK, Canada, Australia, Sweden etc. have a much longer and more expensive process. Finland isn't under any pressure to change their process at all.

In any case it makes sense that they give you a priority rating as soon as you go into the office to verify yourself. We do the same thing at work, give a priority number based on how difficult we'd find this work ticket to do. If it's super difficult, it's always left until later so we can get second and third opinions on it.

Would also make sense why mine is over 1 year now because when I applied my passport surname didn't match my surname in Finland. They said they normally wouldn't have taken the application because it needs to match. Though I argued they don't mention this anywhere on their website and I forced them to take the application and said I'd renew my passport with the right surname. I did that 1 month later, but I'm probably in the lower priority bin because of that.

All one can do is wait. At least people with the right documents are getting a super fast response. I don't think any other countries in the world could get 6 month results no matter the circumstances.
The average Somali and Iraqi costs Finland €12,000 per person, per year.

Asking for a friend
Anybody here is applying for citizenship with entrepreneur background? I heard that waiting time is extremely long because migri is checking all taxes, incomes, expenses, everything belonging to applicants company money. My friend knows a person who was waiting for about 3 years because of his start up problems.

May I ask what kind of start up problem it was?

It’s quite clear that a lot of us who applied in 2020 and 2021 were unlucky to have applied within that period. We have seen that a lot of people who applied in 2022 are getting their decisions faster. My theory is that based on the automation, they scheduled us for much later and are not gonna check our applications until the time scheduled by the automation. That’s why they keep skipping and attending to the 2022’s who applied at a time when the waiting period has been reduced considerably. This is just a theory but in my opinion it explains things. However, if you contact them and you happen to reach a considerable person, perhaps they might forward your complaint to your case officer who might look at it as we have seen from some people here in the past.

I applied on the basis of family ties (married to a Finn). I am also self-employed (toiminimi), so it makes sense that migri will be checking the business-related documents I provided. Operating as a toiminimi has been a smooth process so far. My citizenship application has been in for around six months. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Does anyone know, if I applied for the citizenship while having a regular residence permit, but acquired a pysyvä along the way, do I need to add a scan of it as a supplement to my citizenship application? Or do they get this info automatically?

Thanks!

I’m quite sure they have your updated status in their system
