Applying for first residency permit
Is it better too apply for a residency permit in finland or apply we're I am originally at(united states) and how long does it take if you are in finland to get results?

The processing time depends on the basis for the residence permit you’re applying, which you can find on Migri website. Living in Finland without a valid residence permit, you are not allowed to work, you will not be covered by Kela for any benefits, you most likely wouldn’t even get free heathcare, you will be on your own while waiting up to a year for your residence permit.

It is possible to use fast track for some type of applications, and if your RP basis allows fast track it is better to apply in your country, because you can't use fast track if you apply in Finland. Also you can't leave the country until you get the decision if apply in Finland.

If you apply in Finland and leave the country before decision, you won't get positive decision.
