College debt
Hypothetical question: if you have college debt in another country, can it carry over into finland/ will it effect you in terms of banking, getting a house, financing a car. etc..

Re: College debt
Yes. Especially if it is the USA. Every bank in Finland asks if you are a US taxpayer and you have to tell them your US social security number. The USA follows its citizens everywhere.

Isn't that just for reporting to the IRS?heretostay wrote: ↑Mon Mar 13, 2023 1:22 pmEvery bank in Finland asks if you are a US taxpayer and you have to tell them your US social security number. The USA follows its citizens everywhere.

Since Uncle Sam taxes its citizens regardless of where they actually live, banks in Finland might do credit checks on you if you are a US citizen. So your unpaid loans in the US might affect their decision-making. I do not know this for a fact though. You could ask the bank in question I suppose.
