Just adding something to this respond, yes if your get citizenship while abroad, they might let you in, but remember that they need an ID. Basically after you get citizenship, your old passport cannot be used as an ID anymore. You either need a finnish passport, or ID card (not driving licence). You need even finnish ID card to pick up your new finnish passport or give power of attorney to someone who is citizen to pick up passport.kalaizanala wrote: ↑Mon May 15, 2023 9:31 pmI was abroad when migri started to process my application. I knew that it is better to inform them before the trip, but I didn't really cared about it. So, they sent me a request, something like:pizzapasta wrote: ↑Mon May 15, 2023 5:56 pmYeah I know one needs to notify migri prior to traveling out of the country so they don’t make a decision while you are away. However, in the unlikely scenario that they do grant you citizenship while you are outside of Finland maybe due to an oversight on their part even after haven notified them of your exit, does anybody know how one could re-enter the country or if it’s possible at all ?
"According to our data you left Finland on day xx.xx.2023. Tell us when you are planning to go back and send the answer within two weeks. If you will not answer in two weeks the decision can be negative".
I came back to Finland in two days after the request and decision was positive.
But I also know a woman who received citizenship while was abroad. As she explained it was ok to come back with permit in this kind of situation. Border guards cannot refuse to let a Finnish citizen into Finland.
So, the worst scenario that can happen is like this:
applicant don't notify migri about trip > mirgi starts processing and send a request > applicant missing a request and don't answer > negative decision
If you do not have finnish ID card and you get citizenship while abroad, I highly doubt in any condition border guards let you in. You will redirected to finnish embassy for further check. I believe if you inform them, nothing will happen to your application queue. I informed them before my one week vacation and just when I returned, they processed and gave respond to me. They just hold on until you come back.

Yes you get declined if they aren't 2 of the accepted criteria which goes together. Rules are rules and it's quite clear.
Good. F*** these socialist dogs that make the country open to welfare refugees. It only takes 4 years to apply for citizenship + the waiting time for your application. If you can't support yourself via employment during this time, then you shouldn't be allowed to have everyone else pay to support you.pizzapasta wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 1:46 pmIn the news today the Finns Party is seeking changes such as limiting the right to seek asylum in Finland to internal European refugees and restricting the right to social security solely to Finnish citizens.

It makes perfect sense and btw it's the law in Australia, UK, Switzerland, Japan and USA. It doesn't stop ANY of those countries from getting immigrants, it just stops people moving to them who have no intention on working ever and claiming money as soon as they walk in the door. Before anyone start crying about this, think about the facts. It would save us billions in social security which can go to other more important areas like fixing the horrible public healthcare queues and aged care problems. People moving here should not be moving here FOR the welfare system but for OTHER reasons. Makes sense that the refugees posting here who are all clearly posting on benefits have a problem with this though.

I hope they keep blocking this in parliament and we go to another re-vote and they win.
The average Somali and Iraqi costs Finland €12,000 per person, per year.

Hello everyone!
Applied 25.5.2021
I got decision 22.05.2023.
The decision is negative.
The Finnish Immigration Service does not grant the applicant Finnish citizenship because he has essentially neglected his public law payment obligations.
I had payment plan I am paying it manually every month.
They did not care about the payment plan.
How ever life is goin on. I applied to court and lawyer They must pay attention payment plan I have an I am working full time.
Hopefully I will get some good news from the court.

Oh sorry to hear that. Was the money so much that you could not pay all within your 2 years waiting? This is sad if I were you I would have paid all once and appeal the decision. If I remembered your case has been many months in second stage which was not normal.Mamu wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 3:54 pmHello everyone!

Re: Citizenship Application 2023
Payment obligation
To be able to become a Finnish citizen, you must have paid your:
taxes
fines
hospital fees
child maintenance payments
state-guaranteed student loan instalments.
In addition, you may not have any of your Kela benefits subject to garnishment.
If you have not fulfilled your payment obligations, we will consider:
how large a sum is unpaid and how important the payment is
whether you have attempted to pay the sum
whether you have created a payment plan and followed it.
Failure to take care of your payment obligations may prevent you from becoming a Finnish citizen.

Re: Citizenship Application 2023
Before making the decision, did they give you the chance to clarify or give reasons why the payments were outstanding ? I mean did they ask you for supplemental data or anything like that ?Mamu wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 3:54 pmHello everyone!

OMG...this is very unfortunate. Manu I don't want to intrude but what kinda of debts was that and how did you get to that point of not paying until a payment plan was required.Mamu wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 3:54 pmHello everyone!
