Re: Citizenship Application 2023
Seriously bro i have no idea why my application is taking that long on stage 2. i mean i wouldn't have minded if it was stage 1, but being almost 5 month on stage 2 is kind of weird. Especially that i came here to finland with a residency permit, i have PR, i have a master's degree and Phd from finland, and i am working and country is not on the list, and passed all sections of YKI if that counts or no. The funny part is that i never had any problems with migri in the past, all my applications were processed super fast. For example i got my PR in 3 days. and i have asked many people with similar situation, what can be the problem and nobody has a solid answer!

Just a wild guess - what if having PR gives your case low priority? Meaning you don't have to worry about extending temporary permits, can reside in Finland even while being unemployed and receiving Kela benefits etc.karhu86 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 6:04 pmSeriously bro i have no idea why my application is taking that long on stage 2. i mean i wouldn't have minded if it was stage 1, but being almost 5 month on stage 2 is kind of weird. You've mentioned that the residence permit has expired. However, according to the rules, a person must have a valid permit until a citizenship decision is made. I'm not sure if the same applies to a permanent permit. Correct me if I'm wrong.Ohthatguy wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 5:20 pmCongratulations all!

Even though the waiting is tough but i don’t really mind it since it will arrive one day anyways. However, my wife couldn’t travel at all for the last 3 months and if anything unexpected happened like sudden sickness of family member aboard etc i dont know what can we do honestly…
Anyways best of luck for everyone here!

So far it feels like there is actually no logic whether your application is processed fast or not.karhu86 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 6:04 pmSeriously bro i have no idea why my application is taking that long on stage 2. i mean i wouldn't have minded if it was stage 1, but being almost 5 month on stage 2 is kind of weird. No matter how much money you make, what is your family situation, how long you've been living in Finland etc.
If you are lucky you will get a decision fast. If you are not then you have a chance that you will have to wait over 2 years.
I would assume that there is nothing special happening with your application: migri employee just started processing it, went for a lunch and then forgot to get back to your application.
I did a small research based on publicly available data and I can see that for some reason currently migri mostly processes applications who either have small queue number (and obviously waited quite long time) or have queue number ~4400-4800. So if your application was not processed within a first ~6-7 months then there is a chance that you will have to wait for quite a long time.
Of course these are only my assumptions based on the current situation. I may be wrong and/or situation may change in the future.

Re: Citizenship Application 2023
I doubt this. I had a permanent residence permit when applied for the citizenship in August’22 and I got the decision in February’23. So even with unlimited residence permit it took about 6-7 months.RandomDude wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 6:39 pmJust a wild guess - what if having PR gives your case low priority? Re: Citizenship Application 2023
It is okay if you apply for citizenship and have an expired residence permit as long as you applied for another residence permit.juhapekkonen wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 6:48 pmYou've mentioned that the residence permit has expired. Re: Citizenship Application 2023
I believe your interpretation is correct. You must have a valid residence permit while your citizenship application is pending. If you have a regular residence permit and are applying for citizenship, going for an extended residence permit seems to be the easier, cheaper and faster route. I applied for citizenship in August 2022 and had to renew my residence permit this past summer. I applied for an extended permit, and it was approved in less than 24 hours.juhapekkonen wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 6:48 pmYou've mentioned that the residence permit has expired. Re: Citizenship Application 2023
This is correct. Whilst your citizenship application is processing, to get it approved you must either have:
1. A pending application for a residence permit
or
2. A valid residence permit
Those are the only two things that they will accept. If you do not have a pending application or a valid permit, the citizenship application is denied.

Re: Citizenship Application 2023
I knew some people weren't getting SMS or Email about this. So basically still gotta check everything every few weeks to be sure that you even get any notification. Crazy that you can pay €450 euros and not even get an email or text message that the application got a decision.

Congrats though! Wonder why it took so long in stage 2. Maybe because of them checking criminal record overseas?
Congrats and well done on being so patient. Did you get an SMS or Email? It seems many people aren't getting these at all...
