Hi all,

I had a friend who just applied for the citizenship beginning of this year. He did a stupid thing, shoplifting in the market - he took some supplements. He got caught by the guard, then the polices were come and fined him as petty theft.

He is under depressed now and regretting and shouting at himself. I'm so sad for him :( , of course he did wrong thing and had to pay the price for that action. However, I hope this will not impact on his citizenship decision.

Is this the issue of the citizenship decision? Anyone has advice on this?
One petty fine will not affect the decision. But if your friend resisted during the capture, it is also a crime. Then it will affect.
I hope his citizenship application will be rejected because Finland does not need criminals like him.
He committed a crime when he is not a citizen yet, can you imagine when he is a citizen already? He will commit many crimes thinking he cannot be deported.
I don't agree. People can make mistakes easily. They can also regret and try to become better next time. On the other hand, Finns are not angels and some of them also commit crimes heavier than shoplifting.

Probably you have a complex case. Don't forget, getting citizenship is not a right but a privilege. Even meeting all criteria does not necessarily mean that they cannot reject.

If you have permanent residence, you are pretty much covered anyway.
I don't think PR is as good as citizenship. For instance, your PR will be cancelled and you will be deported if you are unemployed for longer than 3 months. There is no such risk when you are citizen.
That’s incorrect. When you have permanent residence permit, whether working or not working, this has no impact on your status. You can live permanently in Finland. It is called Permanent Residence, not based a work permit or work based residence permit.
You might be correct. I remember from initial proposal that plans to deport both unemployed RP and PR holders. It must be changed then, I don't know the details.

I know someone with diary number 132XX got their decision yesterday. So 133XX should be close.

Keeping my finger crossed - I'm also 133XX.

Hi all, I had a chain of tight communications with migri regarding their citizenship process, so it was not like they replied me wait for 23 months, I over-came that stage with serious questions. I have now more visibility how things work inside based my email chain. I don't want to share them simply b.c. this might increase number of applications processed within 6 months (if everyone knows it), which, at the same time, will lead that applications in a longer queue will be processed longer.

But what I can say you, if you are not refugess etc. came with residence permit etc.
* You don't need to worry if your application in a longer queue. It doesn't mean you are special or something wrong with you at this stage
* You cannot do much about that, in fact, if they give you exception, they need to review exceptions for everyone else, otherwise this will discriminate them, so just wait...
* Service point you visited for verification doesn't matter in which queue you are

Sorry, I cannot share much, as I don't want to affect 2022 processing, but I have some explanation on paper what happens inside which explains a lot, and what migri really needs, in my opinion, is to re-allocate resources and start processing more older applications.

It's obvious they need to reallocate resources. You wouldn't expect any organization to be processing applications from both ends of the queue, to the detriment of people in the middle.

I have never once thought that my application is taking longer because I'm some sort of "problem case." My situation and circumstances couldn't be clearer and more verifiable. Some people have wrongly assumed that if your case hasn't been processed in under a year, there's something wrong. Nope, it's simply because of the way migri is tackling the queue, from both ends.
