Medical care services when working, but without having a residence permit?

Post by crisach » Fri Jul 19, 2024 8:18 pm

Hello,

I am asking for a friend :ochesey:  . My friend is in a weird situation came to Finland and ask for political asylum, meanwhile they found a job and applied for a residence permit based on work. It is still in process and waiting for the decision, though as asylum applicant is legal to work. Hence it pays all the taxes.
So the question is how the medical care done. They live in Espoo, though there is no dvv registration. My understanding is that everyone has access to medical services if they work and provider is the city where they live.

How is this done?

Cristian

”Medical care services for asylum seekers are arranged by the reception centres, which are maintained by the State, the municipalities and the Finnish Red Cross. The services are provided by the reception centre where you have been registered. Your medical care costs are not paid by Kela.”

For the work based route: ”You can ask Kela to determine if you are entitled to medical care when”

Hello,

At the moment my friend has a dental problem and the refugee center put as not emergency so they will cover it. But the person works pays the health insurance so question is how to get access to t public dentist as any person who work in finland and pays taxes.

Edit: Thanks for the links. I guess the kela is the way to go.

In Finland, even if you don't have a personal ID number yet, if you're working and paying taxes, you should be covered for medical care. Your friend can access services through the city where they live (Espoo in this case). They might need to show proof of employment and that they're paying taxes.
