My estimation is that it would take them 2 weeks to process applications of 1 week period . So I’d reckon 1st week of Jan applications would be processed between week 45 -46whoisjohngalt wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 10:18 pmIs anyone else under the impression that it takes a few days for Migri to handle applications for one calendar day, or is it just me? My acquittance applied for citizenship at the beginning of December 2023 and got her decision a month ago. And now it looks like Migri is still processing applications for the middle of December. I applied at the beginning of January and I feel they'll start processing January applications in at least two to three months.

Yeah, I think your estimation sounds reasonable. Thanks!JaysD wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 11:22 pmMy estimation is that it would take them 2 weeks to process applications of 1 week period . I just don't particularly understand what happened and why the minimum waiting time almost doubled. Two of my colleagues applied last July and got their citizenship in 5.5 months and now it seems the minimum estimated time for January is almost 10 months. Has the number of applications doubled? Or has something else changed?
Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
The applications by no means arrive evenly across the year. See my earlier post here: viewtopic.php?p=611085#p611085whoisjohngalt wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 10:18 pmIs anyone else under the impression that it takes a few days for Migri to handle applications for one calendar day, or is it just me? I am not sure what % of applications are tied to YKI results (you don't need YKI if you complete education in finnish for example) but I think YKI results are linked to the majority of applications and YKI results arrive only 8 times per year. When those test result envelopes are opened there is a huge wave of applications. But processing is done at a steady pace (excluding the summer). So january applications must wait for the wave of applications from early December 2023 YKI results to be processed.

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
There has definitely been a pretty noticeable uptick in applications being submitted since the law change was announced, starting from last summer. You can check the submissions and decisions for each month from migri’s statistics website: https://tilastot.migri.fiwhoisjohngalt wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 11:17 amYeah, I think your estimation sounds reasonable. Good estimation, it can be a bit quicker as well because there were practically 2 working days in last week of Deccember. January applications processing should start in 3 weeks starting 7.10JaysD wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 11:22 pmMy estimation is that it would take them 2 weeks to process applications of 1 week period . Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Hi, I have never posted in this forum but been following this thread since I applied for the citizenship last December. The information you guys shared helped me a lot to estimate when my application should be processed, especially during the downtime in the summer.
Today I got the positive decision. And I am happy that it is my turn to share my timeline
11/12/2023: sent the application online, no need to visit service point
15/12/2023: diary number 16xxx was created. The queue position started at 85xx
12/09/2024: the application started to be processed
16/09/2024 at 14.30: got the positive decision (no addition information was required)
Some info about my application:
- 2016-2020: Visa B as a student from South east Asia
- 2020-2024: Visa A as an employed person. (My 4-year working visa would be expired by the end of 2024 so I had not applied for Permanent permit yet)
- I travelled a lot, more than 30 trips since 2016, especially the last 3 years. But my trips never last more than 1 month.
- I was unemployed in couple of months in 2023 but didn’t register/receive any benefit (both Kela and unemployment fund). They didn’t ask about that no-income period which I feel lucky
Hope my information can help someone who is waiting. Good luck to you all!!!
