Applying for Citizenship 2024
Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
You get your diary no based on the date you applied, not that the day you received your diary number (This info should be correct if you don't need to visit migri to prove your identity.).
If you apply in December and get your diary no in January, it must be something 17xxx/310/2023
If you apply in January and get your diary no in January, it must be something (1000-2000)/310/2024

It’s nice to see they have processed a 2024 (diary received) date!
Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Congratulations. It looks like January 2024 has finally begun with 2023 submissions decided first. Next week will be interesting.

Hi,
Can you tell when did he submit the application? Did it have diary number with 2023 or 2024?

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Even when you have to visit, if you applied in dec 2023 and visit migri in 2024, diary number is still 2023.burcu1 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 6:27 pmYou get your diary no based on the date you applied, not that the day you received your diary number (This info should be correct if you don't need to visit migri to prove your identity.).

Anyway now I’m just patiently waiting for my turn as I applied a week after these people who are approved already. Fingers crossed! Hope we get decisions soon!!
Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
I thought the same too about the cancellation of the residence permit/card.riku2 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 9:10 amWhen I left via helsinki airport schengen border control I only showed my (non finnish) passport - thinking that the residence card is automatically cancelled when citizenship is awarded a couple of days earlier. The border officer went through my passport looking for a stamp and I held the residence card and said "I used to have one of these". He took it and scanned it as normal and told me that I should always show the card (the term "used to have" was probably lost on him).
So from this it seems their system doesn't know my residence card is "cancelled". Perhaps their system is offline compared to the population register (I already checked and that had my citizenship within minutes of being awarded it).
It's unclear if entry will be the same - I am still abroad and yet to return. I will find out in a few days!
Please share your experience when you have already come to Finland

Congratulations!
Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Yes, you are correct, I come from outside Schengen. I think I need to inform them now before any citizenship grant.Auringon_kukka wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 10:20 amIf you haven't received citizenship yet, inform migri about your absence via secure messaging. That way, they will know not to grant citizenship while you're abroad. You simply re-enter (assuming you're coming from outside Schengen) using your national passport and your still-valid Finnish residence card.dilema wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 9:02 amHi, can you tell me about your experience about travelling without a valid residence card and without Finnish passport?riku2 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 1:03 pmFinally the day came for me (from a non EU country in continuous permanent employment for over 25 years)
1999 Moved to Finland on a full time job contract.
27.12.2023 Applied for citizenship
28.12.2023 Visited service point, diary number created (169xx)
29.12.2023 Starting position in the queue was 8660
27.09.2024 Processing has started
27.09.2024 Positive decision two hours later
Next I will see how travel works without a valid residence card since I will leave the country in three days time so won't have a Finnish passport by then.
Have you informed migri about this? How did you enter Finland back?
I think I will have the same situation as yours based on the predicted timeline.
Thanks.
Thank you for your advice.
