Applying for Citizenship 2024
Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Thanks a lot to everyone who replied and provided valuable information that could explain some of the questions I had on citizenship process. One thing I still can’t figure out is determining if I’m in a ‘long’ queue or not. Does it have something to do with diary number? Mine is a 3-digit and starts with 6. How credible is the diary number theory or is there still room for unexplained processing time? I’m aware of the fact there was previously a way to find out your place in the queue by asking a chatbot.

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Your diary number doesn’t actually tell you anything other than the sequence, application type, and year. It follows the format XXXX/310/YYYY where the “XXXX” represents the sequence of applications submitted (starting at 1 on the first application submitted for that year), the 310 represents the citizenship application type, and the “YYYY” is the year of your application. So if you had diary number 1/310/2024 that just means you are the very first person to submit a citizenship application for the year 2024. The first number will increase by one until the end of the year, so if there are 12,000 applications for citizenship in the year 2024 then the last diary number would be 12000/310/2024, and then it would restart at 1/310/2025 after the new year.RezheenA wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 10:11 amThanks a lot to everyone who replied and provided valuable information that could explain some of the questions I had on citizenship process. A quick note: your diary number represents when you submitted the application, but processing is more tied to the date you find out what your diary number. This means that if you submit your application at 00:01 on 1.1.2024, but you have to visit migri to prove your identity, and you can’t go until 20.1.2024, then your diary number will probably be 1/310/2024, but you won’t get your diary number until 20.1.2024, which is also the date you “join the queue”. If someone didn’t need to visit migri and had diary number 250/310/2024, and learned what their diary number was on 15.1.2024, then that person would be ahead of you in the queue, even though you have a lower diary number.
So TL;DR is that diary number doesn’t mean anything other than your sequence for that year. It can’t tell you if you are in the long or short queue, and doesn’t provide you with much information other than being your unique application number. I hope that makes sense and gives others clarity on what this means, but feel free to let me know if something isn’t clear

04.11.2024 - Moved to stage 2, about 7:30 in the morning.

Good luck all who are waiting for the decision.

22.02.24 application submitted
23.02.24 migri visited
19.11.24 16.55 applications moved to stage 2
21.11.24 15.35 positive decision recieved
Me and my husband both applied, two our kids were added as coapplicants to both our applications. This was actually an advice from migri worker, who confirmed our identities. I was not sure if we can apply from both parents or just one, she said as it’s free of charge it’s better to apply from both in case our applications will be processed with different timing. I was concerned about timing too, but both our application moved into processing simultaniously.
We moved to Finland from Russia in August 2019 with B type. In July 2021 changed to A, never applied for permanent residence. Good luck to everyone here! I was sooooo depressed lately when decision didn’t came after 7 months. I literally survived last two months by checking this Forum every day, so thank you so much!

26.03.23 Applied online
17.04.23 visited migri and diary number created

I assume the algorithm put me on the longer queue because I came to Finland and lived here for five years as EU (British) but then lived here 5 ish more as not EU(British).

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
I’m not aware of anywhere to find this information unfortunately :/. All I suspect is the initial digits are just the sequence from which you apply, so the number of digits doesn’t really mean anything. The second number, “310” in this case, means citizenship application, so the first number is just the sequence of citizenship applications. I had applied and received my permanent residence last year, before applying for my citizenship this year, and that was XXXX/130/YYYY, so that means “130” means permanent residence application type. But outside of that I have no idea.RezheenA wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 4:41 pmWow thanks a lot I appreciate you explaining it so thoroughly! PS: I also would love to thank everybody here for the congratulations, the moral support and especially auringon_kukka for the mood lifting and the fellow self employed infos shared.EllisPhoenix wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2024 1:09 pmGot my decision today, I'm finally a Finnish Citizen!![]()
Here is my timeline:
24.10.2022 Applied online.
17.11.2022 Visited Migri.
31.10.2024 The processing started.
06.11.2024 Got a request for supplementary information. Replied same day.
21.11.2024 Decision ready.
The last weeks have been really stressful, I was hoping to get an answer in few days max after supplying addional documents, instead it took weeks, so I'm glad the wait is finally over.
Good luck to everyone waiting for a decision, especially others waiting since 2022 like me. I hope you get it soon!![]()
I waited patiently and only started stressing out in the past months once the processing time kept getting longer… so I found this forum and read the entire 2023 and 2024 threads looking for infos and it helped immensely.
On the “long queue” topic I can add my case: waited two years, no issues like refugee, etc… only things I’m from an EU country and I’ve been full time self employed since 2016 with many short work trips (still within the limits - nothing longer than 4 weeks).
I’m sure the self employed and the trips is what got me into the long queue, I am also paying installments with Vero but that is something that started very recently so it cannot be the reason I was assigned to the long queue back in 2022.
As additional documents I was asked to update my travels list, supply company loss-profit statements from my accountant, and provide additional infos on the back taxes I’m paying installments for to Vero. So having debts with Kela, Vero etc is not an issue, as long as installments are paid in time and the reason of the debt is “normal” not criminal - like providing Kela with false info to get benefits not entitled to for example.
Also I received my decision while I was abroad - they didn’t ask me to wait to be back to Finland but that is probably because I have another EU passport, not a resident permit that expired creating me issues to enter.
I hope this details help somebody else in a similar situation.

You’re right the diary number is probably just an indication of the number of applications up to that exact moment. Once again thanks a lot and for sure if I find anything relevant I will post it hereBringMePulla wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 6:41 pmI’m not aware of anywhere to find this information unfortunately :/. Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Hi fellow-applicants,
I applied for Finnish citizenship in May 2024 and my Diary number is 58XX/310/2024. I arrived in Finland in 2015 on a residence permit with valid passport. and have been working all the time. Currently, I am on a Permanent Residence card.
Upon asking Migri regarding queue/general status they replied that - Thank you for your message, I checked your application and it is waiting for to be processed. The estimated processing time is 25 months. The estimation starts counting from the date you visited the service point for identification.
Has anyone else got this type of general 25 months reply recently?

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
After how many days/months migri sends automatic email about travel? 24 weeks(5 months and 15 days) or exact after 6 months? If possible could you please check your submission date and automatic email about traveling? Because today I got email from Migri about my travel, I wonder if my decision is about to come or all people get after 5 months and 15 days?
