Hi fellow-applicants,

I applied for Finnish citizenship in May 2024 and my Diary number is 58XX/310/2024. I arrived in Finland in 2015 on a residence permit with valid passport. and have been working all the time. Currently, I am on a Permanent Residence card.


Upon asking Migri regarding queue/general status they replied that - Thank you for your message, I checked your application and it is waiting for to be processed. The estimated processing time is 25 months. The estimation starts counting from the date you visited the service point for identification.


Has anyone else got this type of general 25 months reply recently?

I checked the same with Migri twice, 3 months ago they informed that my processing time is 8 months from identity verification or submission date. Then i checked with them again 3 weeks ago and they informed that they expect my application to be processed in the next 1-2 months. Applied in Jan 24 and visited Migri in 07 Feb - not sure if it will be processed soon.

Background: non-EU / arrived in 2018 with B-permit (Scientific researcher) and moved to A-type in Jan 2019 / Salary on mid-high level / i have a lot of travel record, almost used all the travel periods allowed in the old law.

Update to this comment: Moved to "In Progress" today morning at 8:30. Therefore as promissed by Migri via email, 1 month and 5 days from last check where they said that the processing will start in 1-2 months. Hope this helps anyone in this forum.

I have been trying to find any sort of correlation for the past few weeks but unfortunately, I couldn’t. It seems that the process after the 6-9 month mark becomes random.
I have seen cases that lasted 14, 16, 18, 22, and 24 months whereas they weren’t processed in chronological order.

I understood how the 25-month term applies specifically to me. But now I'm not sure if it's meant for me or if it's a general term, like the one shown on the calculator on their website.

Hello fellow long queue applicants,

I recently came across document OKV/1941/80/2024, where the Ministry of Justice is investigating Migri’s approach to reducing the backlog of citizenship applications. The investigation highlights that some of Migri’s actions violate the constitution and concludes that their efforts so far are insufficient. Further review is planned for June 2025.

Migri has set a target to process all applications within a year, with a projected success rate of 65% in 2024 (which they failed 44% Jan-July) and 100% by 2028.

The document outlines the measures Migri is implementing, including:
1. Automated decision processing (cMay 2024)
2. Organizational reforms (June 2024)
3. Temporary reallocation of resources to address long-queue applications (August–December 2024)
