Thanks! Yes it took an hour to get the decisionSonora Desert wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 2:49 pmCongratulations! That's very encouraging. Did the second stage go by quickly?Koivu_ wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 1:51 pmToday I got the decision, after 9,5 months
EU citizen background, salaried status.
Applied on 24/03/24
Visit to Migri and diary number on 02/04/24, 28xx
I contacted Migri by email in November and they predicted a total of 9 months of waiting, so quite accurate.
My case could be an anecdotal evidence that EU citizens are in a slightly longer queue.
Best of luck to everyone!

Hi
I am sorry to post this here because it’s a totally different topic, but I have a question. A friend of mine applied for resident permit based on employment and was giving negative, he put an appeal, the appeal process is still going on but he was today by a lawyer that he cannt reapply again. She is so confused and feel sad. Do anyone know of a good immigration lawyer that can help? She will so much appreciate it.

If your friend doesn't meet requirements for work permit, than it won't make sense to spend money on lawyer.Kathy36 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 4:39 pmHi

Has anyone been invited to a police interview in connection with the application?

Do you mean SUPO or Poliisi? If the first one, this is normal.aurinkoinen-25 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 12:06 pmHas anyone been invited to a police interview in connection with the application?
Re: Citizenship application 2025
Hello everyone,
It is my time to share the good news. Here is some information:
- Applied and identified myself on 13.06.2022
- Application moved to stage 2 on 14.01.2025
- Positive decision on 14.01.2025 after 1.5 hrs with no additional requests has been made. So it took 31 month and 1 day. My application was up-to-date. Like I renewed my home country passport and did some travelling in between, so I kept my application updated. So they didn’t ask for any additional documents during the processing.
Some background information:
- I came to Finland in 2017 as a student, so I had B residence permit, did some part time jobs until I graduated and then switched to A “work-based permit” after graduation.
- Applied for the permanent residence permit in 2024 and got it on the following day. The officer told me that it would take 9-13 months, but I got it on the following day.
- I am not a refugee, with all respect to fellow refugees. No criminal record, nothing at all. So I decided to take a break from the forum and read in silence because some folks used to question a lot or accuse me of having something hidden. It was mentally draining.
Overall, I have no idea why migri placed me in the longest queue. And it was frustrating everytime they prolonged the waiting time. I messaged them back in 2023 and they told that my application will take the longest processing time back then “I don’t remember”. So it did.
I messaged them again in November 2024, when it was 29 months since I applied, and they said that they will process it in a month. So I emailed them again in December 2024, and they promised again that it will be processed in a month and apologised for the long waiting. But the Christmas and new year holidays have stretched the processing time. But now it came!
The long processing time is mentally exhausting, and terrible. I feel happy for the positive decision but also sad that I had to face this unreasonably long waiting time. I do understand how does it feel to wait for 31 months.
To all fellow 2022 applicants, please take care of your mental health, and I hope that everyone here gets a positive decision soon. This forum has helped me a lot in many ways, from being updated with the information to discussing the implementations of the new citizenship laws. Thanks for 2022 members who were chatting with me from time to time as well. I have been a senior member in this forum
- Side note: if they tell you that your application will take x amount of time to be processed, believe them and forget about your application. This is what happened with me. I might be wrong too. As said, the process was mentally draining, but I was surrounded by good people and friends who always told me not to worry and calmed me down. I am grateful for them!
To everyone waiting, please live your life and try to forget about your application. I fully understand the stress and everything associated with waiting, and I wish the best for everyone here.
Thank you and God bless

First off, my sincere congratulations!!! As a member of that 2022 group, I can fully sympathize with what you went through. However, I guess I can count myself lucky in that it took "just" 24 months in my case. Nonetheless, I can identify with the feelings and state of mind you described.No_doo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 3:09 pmHello everyone,

And you're right, beyond asking migri for updates, there's not much you can do. In situations like this, it's best to be as patient as you can, seek support where you can get it, and ignore people who make unfounded and wild assumptions about your situation.
Again, my sincere congratulations, and make sure to celebrate once you are in a state of mind to do so. The feeling of being a "Finn" will really hit home the next time you travel and show your Finnish passport!

And yup, 24 months are such a long waiting too. I struggled to understand why they do it this way. And I wasn’t able to get any answers from their side when I asked why it is taking so long. They just gave the standard answer of “wait patiently”. Also I contacted a lawyer and they checked everything, but they said there is nothing to do except to wait. I dunno if it could have speeded the process if I tried to proceed with the lawyer or chancellor of justice, but I did not because they just don’t force Migri to process the applications. I might be wrong too, so I dunno.

I’m sticking around here just hoping for news like this! I wanna see those still waiting from 2022 receiving the good news.
It is incredible that it took only one hour processing time, makes the 31 months wait even more insane. I saw the effect that 2 years waiting had on me so I cannot even imagine the mental health cost of waiting that long.
I really hope Migri’s practices will improve over time, making the process less painful and more transparent for everybody.

The problem lies on your residency. You said you came to Finland in 2017 with B permit, and you applied for citizenship in 2022, so I do not think the residency time is enough when you submit the application and that is why you were put in the longest queue.
because 2B is counted as 1A. and a person needs to have 4A at least to apply for citizenship. From 2017 to 2022, it is only 5 years and you said you got permit with B study in the beginning and that is why.
It is reasonable. But I am happy for you that you did not get rejected in the beginning and happy that you got the positive for now. but yes, it sounds making sense for me.
