It took almost three months. I filed the application on 06.11.2024.

Note: My wife is not a Finnish citizen.

That's only 5 days after the judgement.

Congratulations to everyone who either got the residence permit themselves or their spouse did.

For us, we are still waiting. I'm a Finnish citizen and my wife is Moroccoan who went to the embassy in Morocco on 01.10.2024.

The only issue regarding our application is the marriage contract and I gave them my authentic physical one to check at the end of november and almost a month later, just before new year, they gave it back to me and said everything is good. So while we were waiting for the decision to come any day, it took almost a month but eventually the application went to 2nd stage.

So the latest update is that one week after it went to that stage (at the end of January), I received a letter stating that I need to bring the marriage contract back for them to check it again. I have no idea why but what I know is that since the first time I brought it to them (2.5 months ago) until now it has been one person who has been investigating it. Marriage contract is a simple, 2 paged document. It has an apostille which alone should be enough to confirm it's authenticity. It should not take almost 3 months to investigate this matter.

I believe that this investigator has failed to do his job properly and I'm planning to file a formal complaint about this. I know it doesn't affect this current process but I'm hoping that it would make things easier for other people who have to deal with him in the future.

May I ask the people who got their residence permit, how long did it take after the decision for you to receive it and did you get it from embassy or VFS? Also please mention the country you reside in.

confirmed identity on 20.09 in Helsinki (my wife is in Finland, she has another residence permit that is not based on family ties, she applied for an extended one but changed the reason for the residence permit.), and we will be waiting for 5 months soon. no updates.

I’m an applicant for a residence permit as the spouse of a Finnish citizen. I submitted my documents at the embassy in the third week of January 2025. At the same appointment, there was another applicant from my home country applying for the same type of residence permit. We sat at the same table—my appointment was first, followed by hers.

A few days ago, she received a positive decision exactly nine weeks after our appointment, while I haven’t received mine yet. However, we’re staying optimistic that ours will be processed soon, given that we applied for the same type of permit and her decision came relatively quickly.
