I also applied in July 2024. On 1st April, the application moved to stage 2. After that, nothing happened yet. I sent an email and got a reply to wait for their response!

Same here! Applied in July 2024, the application moved to stage 2 weeks ago, and nothing has happened still :D I assume Easter slows it down, plus now Vappu. And I also have a bunch of attachments (jumping jobs as a student and in between, etc.)

Oh really? So many people here got in 1 day. i Also worry a bit coz my spouse got a new job and he will recieve regular salary only after 3 month, atm he has only 60% of it, but ofc i applied all papers. Not sure why it takes so long for them to check everything.

1 day to 2 months on avg. But can be longer. Having a job has 0 impact until new law in Oct but that will impact new applications only.

Hi everyone. I wanted to get your opinion on this. I have continuous residence permit type A and I know new changes are being added to permanent residence permit requirements (on October 1st I think?). I applied for citizenship in late January 2024 and based on what I’ve been reading getting a decision will take at least 22 months, so around December-January. However, judging by how uncertain citizenship application decision periods are, I was thinking of applying for permanent residency before the changes go into effect. What do you guys think? Anyone else in the same dilemma?

I was in that boat. Applied for citizenship in August 2022, and it was granted in August 2024. Had an A-permit. I decided to apply for another extension of the A-permit because it was cheaper than the P. As things turned out, the extension was granted in less than 24 hours.

However, that is only my experience, so you would do well to decide based on your own situation.

I applied for citizenship in 2024 may. Atm it stucks in progress at stage 2.
I applied for Permanent residence in June 2024, got it on next day after visiting Migri it took them 20 min to open my application and make a desicion.
So basically i did it like u said. 0 problems
im 100% sure u should apply for it, just to feel safety and dont worry, worst thing could happend is u lose 200 euro. Thtas a small amount of money for ur mental stablility

The proposed changes have a transition clause. Old rules are planned to apply to applications submitted before the new rules come into force.

The thing is I already renewed the type-A residency back in January not knowing about the proposed changes to permanent residency laws. After all and as far as I know having extended or permanent won’t affect how long it will take before you get a decision on citizenship application.

Yeah they’ve been telling me to get the permanent but I never thought it would be necessary until now. I could’ve been wrong but I thought there wasn’t much difference between the extended and the permanent residency. But yeah for sure it will bring me some sort of reassurance.

Thanks for sharing the link. It says “the law is intended to enter into force on 8 January 2026”, assuming it gets the majority of votes in the parliament.

The parliament is also free to change the date as it's sovereign. They would do it, for example, if takes a while to process in the relevant committees.
