Nope. I am not a refugee, not an entrepreneur. I contacted them a couple of months ago and the response was standard: the application is being processed, wait for additional request or the decision..

Hi! I’m a Master’s student in Marketing at Aalto University. I am conducting thesis research on how Finnish citizenship applicants navigate the long and uncertain process: including how they seek information, cope with waiting, and interact with Migri.

I am also in the middle of this process myself, which led me to study it more closely. The goal of this research is to better understand the applicant experience and contribute to public discussion on how bureaucratic systems affect everyday life.

If you are currently waiting for a decision and willing to share your experience, I would be glad to talk. The interview takes about 30-60 minutes, is informal, and can be done in English via Teams or in person. All data will be anonymized, and no personal information will be used.

Has anyone contacted migri recently? What is the current estimate processing time they give? It was 9-31months recently but now estimate time page is broken on migri website.

We have allocated more resources to process applications that have been submitted on 31 December 2023 or earlier.

On 3 June 2025, 10,210 applications are waiting for processing (co-applicants are included).
Since 1 April 2025, we have decided 1,792 applications in total.

Can I ask entrepreneurs who have been processed already or who are in the processing stage? When they started your processing? Did they start when it was exactly 23 months after submission or slightly eariler or later (if you can give exact timeline)? I'm asking because my 23 months are coming in 3 weeks, but at the same time I have plans to visit another country in EU for 2 weeks, so I'm no sure what to expect, should I return airplane tickets.

well mine entered stage 2 4 days after it entered 23rd month. up untill now no additional request nothing . I dont know whats up with them anyways . just like you i wanted to travel to my home country but well nothing now so still waiting

Are you on job or entrepreneur, it heavily affects after doc submission, I know a few cases where people who have replied to supplements still have to wait quite a few months to get a decision or further supplements. They all had entreprenuer income. The other reason for the wait is that Migri needs to verify your provided info in supplements with external sources so it takes them time, Anyways good luck

Some people said they wait for 6 mobth already, you never know. How long do you wait in total?

I agree--the process is not very transparent for applicants who are anxiously waiting. Unfortunately, there is no way to speed things up or "make" migri give you a decision. You can always email or call them, but the response is very likely to be "Just wait patiently."

No, you are already assigned to certain queue. Your case will not be checked till it is picked up. So they will not even know how your life changes... It will not have any impact on the processing speed. But when it gets into processing stage it can need further investigation such as income requirement etc.

Max estimated time is 31 months at least to move to second stage. But it can stay in the second stage for a couple of months if Migri needs more investigation,
