Ulkomaalaispoliisi muuttaa keskustasta Malmille
Julkaistu 16:40

Helsingin ulkomaalaispoliisi muuttaa helmikuussa Kaartin poliisitalosta radanvarteen Ylä-Malmille. Työ ulkomaalaisten parissa Viljatien poliisitalon siivessä alkaa 9. helmikuuta.

Ulkomaalaispoliisissa on 67 työntekijää. Yksikön vanhoihin tiloihin keskustaan muuttaa poliisilaitoksen esikunta Pasilasta. Osa esikunnasta työskentelee jo nyt Kaartin poliisitalossa.

"Muuttoon liittyy tiettyä haikeutta, sillä ulkomaalaispoliisi on vanhan passitoimiston perillisenä aina työskennellyt keskustassa", sanoi maahanmuuttoyksikön johtaja, komisario Harri Palmu. "Toisaalta nyt saadaan paremmat tilat. Täytyy toivoa, että ulkomaalaiset Malmille löytävät. Yhteydet ovat hyvät."

And make a note : "If you share the illusion of your friends and family you "live in Helsinki", please double-check your mailing address, if it reads ESPOO or VANTAA, you're a country hick and need to apply to the local sheriff, in Kilo and Tikkurila respectively. If it reads KAUNIAINEN, you're a posh country hick and need to go to Kilo as well. Anyone having HELSINKI is going to Malmi. If it reads anything else not mentioned here, please ask."
Cheers, Hank W.

The link has moved too:

But the article text is far better
The aliens' office of the Helsinki Police Department - a familiar place for foreign residents in the capital as it is the police who receive and process applications for citizenship and for residence and work permits - is to move from its location in the downtown area. The new site will be in Malmi, in a wing of the police building in Viljatie, and the move will take place from February 9th.
The location can be found from a Helsinki telephone directory: Map 66, DO/84. It is relatively close to the Malmi railway station. You can also search online using the link below. The address is Viljatie 2.
There are also application forms available online:

Looks like I'll be off to deepest darkest Malmi next week to see if they'll let me stay. So, is 5 years in Finland something that should be celebrated or ...?
