Shipping the boat........

Post by pliu » Thu Aug 05, 2004 5:01 pm

Hello everbody,

I am trying to help my friend, she is moving to Amsterdan.
She lives in a boat here in Finland, and she needs to ship her boat to Amsterdan.
Does anyone knows some company that ship boats?

Thanks in advanced,

Pliu.

I could either go on the back of a truck (if it's around 10-15m long & no more than say 4 m wide, or she could contact any of the cargo lines.
I do not think there are any that specialise in shipping boats as such, but most haulage/cargo companies could advise, try Transpoint for example.
I take it the boat is a river/House boat & not really sea worthy ? If it is sea worthy, & doesn't need a big crew, say just helmsman & navigator, that is, just two people who know what they're doing, then it might be cheaper to sail it across.

She might also want to make sure she has all the permits to bring it into Amsterdam... Dutch burocrats do not like speaking anything else but Dutch and the amount of red tape used in A'dam can be impresive.
