Friday Beers (Turku)

Post by andy mac » Tue Aug 31, 2004 12:35 pm

I noticed a posting for Friday beers in Helsinki.
Is there anybody in the Turku area who wants to have a couple of cheeky pints?

After 7 weeks of living here I've now concluded my bar/pub study of Turku city. The clubs here have been excluded from my tours because they look scary and were probably used on the set of Twin Peaks.

Would love to join you - as we moved 3 weeks ago - and I have yet to make it to a bar.
However - I am in Tampere - so perhaps the taxi home might be expensive!

I'll be arriving in Turku on Monday for a job interview. I'd like to get to know the town a little bit. Once I get my schedule figured out, I wouldn't mind a beer.

Keep me posted guys and you shall discover the fruits of my research.
It's not a bad old city.
By the way Eric all the best with the interview.
What's it for?

It's for a position at a biotech company in international marketing. They've been great about flying me to Finland and getting a hotel, so I'm optimistic that they are pretty serious. They want to see me for parts of two days and I'm hoping to have some time to check out the city a little bit, maybe start looking for some housing or at least figure out where is good place to live.

Sounds promising.
I've only been living in the city about 7/8 weeks but my girlfriends cousin has been here for 10 years.
So if you need some unbiased advice then give me a shout.

Just in case you haven't already found it, here's a pretty useful site:

Hi Andy

are you still living in Turku? I've been here for 4 years, seems like only yesterday. I'm always up for a pint or three, and wouldn't mind some expat company. I usually go out with Finns and while I can usually foolow a Finnish conversation, I can't really add to it as I am still 2 sentences behind.

Fantastic! At last people are coming out of the woodwork. I'd love to join you for a pint or two sometime.
It may be faster if you email me at harveymoon69@mailcity.com
or pm me on this board.
See you around.

Excellent!

I was beginning to wonder if you had gone home already :)
Sure thing, I'll keep in touch. Think I am off to Helsinki this weekend, but hope to catch you for a pint before long. Where is your usual pub? Koulu, Apteeki, Bristol, Hunters?

Cheers,

kevin.

I've been to all the above apart from Bristols. But it looks comfy inside.
Myself and girlfriend like the Cosmic and Bremers. But change around a fair bit.
As I've started my full time Finnish course now I sometimes don't get time to check the forums.
But if you're out and about then text me on 040 514 3398 and we'll meet up.
Cheers.
Andy

And Kevin. It'd be nice to meet you too. Tell you about the beer throwing face-to-face.
